當熠熠的演唱巨星站在臺前享受著聽眾的喝採時，幕後的功臣—詞曲作者往往默默的貢獻著他們的創作，顯少有人因此大紅大紫，此現象中外皆然，但國外由於有類似詞曲協會、各種詞曲創作獎項的設置，因此大眾還是比較有機會認識這些以筆抒發情感、思想的創作人。再者，以作曲家為號召、各方演唱藝人齊聚一堂分別演唱的歌曲合輯發表更是音樂界對該詞曲創作者的禮讚。這張《the Burt Bacharach Collection》就是這樣一張難得一見的專輯。
Burt Bacharach堪稱流行樂壇「六、七○年代的抒情暢銷單曲製造機」透過這張精選的50首歌，你將發現原來有這麼多不朽老歌都出自他之手。當然有作曲就有填詞，他早期的搭檔是Hal David而後期則是1982年結為夫妻的Carole Bayer Sager，這兩對搭檔造就了許多膾炙人口的流行音樂。
此兩張一套作品中收錄的歌曲與原主唱者都是一時之選。首先就是卡本特兄妹(國內自然以木匠兄妹更為知名)1970年的成名冠軍金唱片Close To You。還有惠妮．休斯頓表姊狄昂．華薇克的多首歌曲，會收錄她的多首演唱是因為她曾被喻為Bacharach-David詞曲搭檔的最佳詮釋者，她的代表曲應屬I'll Never Fall In Love Again以及1986年與艾爾頓．強、史提夫．汪德等朋友合唱的年終冠軍曲That's What Friends Are For。還記得保羅．紐曼與勞勃．瑞福合演的《虎豹小霸王》吧！主題曲Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head可是根據Billboard雜誌統計Bacharach寫出的歌曲中成績最好的一首歌，它在1970年曾經得到四周冠軍，同時也是暢銷百萬的金唱片。
提到電影，Bacharach的歌曲與電影可謂密不可分。1981年的浪漫愛情喜劇《二八佳人花公子》主題曲Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)是另一代表；前幾年茱莉亞．蘿勃茲的《新娘不是我》也曾收錄I Say A Little Prayer的重新演唱版；而在007電影風行的年代，1967年曾經有一部搞笑版007∶《皇家夜總會》，其中聚集多位電影紅星像大衛．尼文、伍迪．艾倫、彼得．謝勒...，主題曲Casino Royale是由美國最佳流行拉丁爵士團體Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass所演奏。伍迪．艾倫、彼得．謝勒早在1965年就合演過《What's New Pussycat》，而該片同名主題曲則交由「女性歌迷殺手」湯姆．瓊斯灌唱，也成為他代表作之一。
《The Burt Bacharach Collection》的專輯裡還有其他許許多多的好歌與藝人值得慢慢回憶與認識，不過如果你曾留意擁有極高播出率的電影《時空間諜007》，就可目睹Burt Bacharach這位出生於1928年的作曲家風採∶他就在路邊彈著鋼琴與彈吉他兼演唱的Elvis Costello配合著男女主角的舞蹈，共同演出一曲I'll Never Fall In Love Again。
