Good morning/afternoon, my dear judges. I'm the ___(1st /2nd ……) competitor. It's my great honor to have this opportunity to talk about my teaching ideas. My topic is ____ and my presentation consists of the following aspects, the analysis of the teaching material, the students ,teaching aims, the key points and difficult points of the lesson, teaching method and study method, teaching procedures, blackboard design and so on.
Analysis of the teaching material
This lesson is a new one of Unit 3. It is from PEP English book, the second semester of grade 6.The topic of this unit is about how to use the simple past tense to describe the things that happened in past time. This section includes two periods--- Part 1& Part 2. Students will understand and master some new phrases such as 「watched TV, washed clothes, cleaned the room」 and the target language 「what did you do last weekend? I visited my grandparents」. On the basis of the simple present tense and the present continuous tense, this lesson will present a new tense---the simple past tense. It is a difficult and complicated tense at the elementary level.
Therefore, this lesson is in the important position of the teaching material. The study of the simple past tense will lay a foundation for learning other tenses. If the students can learn it well, it will be helpful to make the students learn the rest of this unit and develop students' listening and speaking skills.
Analysis of Students
Students have the basic abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing to some degree. But their habits of learning English haven’t been formed well during this age. They are lack of self-control and self-confidence in English study. So I will try to teach them with more interesting teaching methods and modern facilities to attract them and help them to set up confidence of learning English and form good habits of learning English with more patience and love.
Analysis of Teaching Aims
Knowledge aims:
Students are able to read, recognize and use these phrases 「watched TV, washed clothes, cleaned the room」 and these sentences: 「what did you do last weekend? I visited my grandparents.」
Ability aims:
①Through discussion and cooperation, students are able to describe and express things that happened in the past skillfully.
②Students can develop their listening and speaking abilities.
Emotional aim: Students get more interests in cultivating and fostering their abilities of working in groups.
Analysis of the key points and difficult points
Next, let me talk about the key points and difficult points.
The key points of this lesson are that students can understand and master the meanings of the new words and phrases, and to use them in proper situation.
The difficult points are that Ss will know how to use the words and expressions in proper situation and how to get the ability of guessing the proper meanings in specific context.
I am ready to use the dictionary to break through the difficult points. I will teach students how to use tools to solve problems and get students to practice the new knowledge in different situations in order to master them.
Analysis of teaching method and learning method
As is known to us all, a good teaching method requires that the teacher should help students develop a good sense of the English language. For achieving these teaching aims, I will use the following methods according to the modern social communication teaching theories.
1. Communicative Approach: This method emphasizes the activities and co-works between students, it can help students cultivate the ability of communication and co-operation.
2. Task-based Language Teaching: Teacher will ask students to complete the set tasks and let students know new knowledge through the task. This method is used frequently in teaching procedures. This method will revise the students』 mastering of the new knowledge.
3. The Situational teaching method: a 「scene — activity」 teaching method, it establishes a real scene and the interaction between the teacher and the students. This method can arouse students』 interest in learning English.
Analysis of teaching procedure
Next, I'll describe the most important parts of my teaching design—
the teaching procedures.
Step 1 Warming up and lead-in
1. Listen to the chant 「What do you usually do on the weekend」.
Purpose:
The purpose of this is to form a better English learning atmosphere for the students, and at the same time, it arouses students』 interest in learning English.
2. Lead-in:
I will choose someone and ask what he or she is doing. Then I』ll ask the whole class 「what do you usually do」. Next, I will ask 「What did you do last weekend?」 in Chinese to lead in the sentence 「what did you do last weekend?」
Purpose: This step attempts to revise the former two sentence patterns and grammatical knowledge and then naturally lead in the past tense 「what did you do」, so that students can compare them and learn better of them.
Step 2 Presentation
With the help of the PPT, I go on to present the pictures about these new phrases such as watch TV, play football on the blackboard to stimulate the Ss』 interest of the lesson.
After presenting each new word (by the guessing game), I will impart the knowledge of pronunciation rules in teaching the new words. It can facilitate the Ss』 abilities to pronounce the words, and help them to remember the spelling of the words.
Activities will help Ss to recognize and read the new words and sentences. Due to the Ss』 age, I make a 「high and low voice」 game to make students practice the new phrases.
The purpose of this is to draw the whole Ss』 attention to the spelling and the pronunciations of the words.
Step 3 Consolidation
In this step, I will give Ss a free space to show their abilities.
I will let my students to make a new dialogue to check if the Ss can use correctly and skillfully. Then, Task-based teaching method and Communicative language teaching are used here. The activity is to develop Ss』 ability of communication, and also, their ability of cooperation will well be developed.
In next step, I will guide the Ss to conclude the key phrases: played football, visited grandparents, cleaned the room and so on and sentences 「What did you do last weekend? I visited my grandparents」 by a game. And also, I will make a whole summary of the class.
The purpose of this is to stimulate Ss』 interest of learning English and wide their knowledge about communication across cultures.
Step 4 Homework
In this part, I will assign some homework, that is to make a survey in your friends and to ask what they did last week, and do remember to write it down on a list.
I think homework is so important that the Ss should speak English as much as they can in class or after class. It is necessary for the Ss to do some extensive exercises after class to consolidate the knowledge they learned.
