有同學發微信問我 if 和 whether 有何區別，我覺得還是專門做一期推送吧。
首先我必須指出，很多同學經常錯誤地把 whether 寫成 weather。請注意，這兩個詞長得很像，但含義完全不同。前者做連詞，表「是否」、「不論」；後者是個名詞，表示「天氣」，比如 weather report（天氣預報）。
If 也是一個常見的連詞，引導狀語從句，可以表示「如果」，也可以表示「是否」。
所以今天我們這篇推文的關鍵在於：當 if 和 whether 都表示「是否」時，可以通用嗎，還是有所區別？今天侃哥就為大家解密。
一般情況下，當 whether 和 if 都表示「是否」、且引導從句時，是可以互換的，比如下面這個句子：
I don’t care if/whether you still love me.
我不關心你是否仍然愛我。
但在以下情況中，whether 是不能替換成 if 的：
區別點1：介詞後面只能用whether。
比如：He often worries about whether he will lose his job.
他經常擔心他是否會丟失工作。
注意，上述句子裡的 whether 不能替換成 if，因為前面 about 是個介詞。
區別點2：只有 whether todo 的形式，沒有 if to do。
比如：I don’t know whether to answer the question.
我不知道我是否要去回答這個問題。
此處 whether無法改成 if，因為沒有 if to do 的形式。
區別點3：只有 whether…ornot，沒有 if…or not。
比如：You have to carry out this plan, whether you like it or not.
無論你喜不喜歡，你都得執行這個計劃。
此處 whether 不能改成 if，因為沒有if…or not 的形式。
區別點4：只有 whether 才能引導主語從句。
比如：Whether he will arrive remains a mystery.
他是否回來仍然是個謎。
此處 whether 不能替換成 if，因為 if 從句無法做主語。
