副詞短語在句中的功能相當於副詞，通常在句中作定語、表語或者狀語。

 

17. as a matter of fact事實上，實際上

用法：as a matter of fact通常用在句首，表示後面陳述的內容是事實。asa matter of fact可以用in fact來代替。

 

例句：As a matter of fact, knowledgeable dissenters (持異議者) are importantfor any belief.  (2014年12月六級)

事實上，知識淵博的反對者對任何信仰都很重要。

 

結構分析：此例句為系表型句子。As a matter of fact是副詞作狀語, knowledgeable dissenters (持異議者)是主語（knowledgeable是形容詞，作前置定語，修飾dissenters）， are是系動詞（現在式）， important for any belief是表語。

 

18. as a rule通常，在多數情況下

用法：as a rule通常在句首或者句末，也可以用於句中，同義詞有as a general rule。

 

例句：I don’t care much for horror movies as a rule. (2014年12月四級)

通常我不太喜歡恐怖片。

 

19. as a whole一般地說

用法：as a whole是固定用法，一般在句中作插入語，同義詞組有in general。

 

例句：As a whole, it is difficult for people with credit blemishes to make a loan.

總的來說，有信用汙點的人貸款比較困難。

 

20. as follows如下

用法：as follows用於列舉事項，通常與系動詞連用，類似的詞組還有as below。

 

例句：The information about the successful entrepreneur is as follows.

關於這位成功的企業家的資料如下。
