2020年，突如其來的新冠肺炎疫情開啟了全球教育領域的數位化變革。艾德藝術設計學院在迅速對當下教育體系、教學內容和模式進行革新和探索的過程中，不斷重啟著設計教育的初心和核心，即通過創造性活動讓世界變得更美好。伴隨著對設計教育堅定的信心和期待，5月，艾德藝術設計學院迎來首位外籍院長的上任——Tony Brown即日起出任院長，引領學院創新未來。
身為國際知名藝術家的Tony Brown是法國巴黎國立高等美術學院終身教授、中央美術學院客座教授，此次出任艾德藝術設計學院院長一職，將全面負責艾德藝術設計學院未來在學術、實踐及國際化教育等方向的整體規劃與發展。

「Tony Brown是一位非凡的領導者、複雜項目的建構者、極具視野和創意的藝術家和設計師，在此前與艾德藝術設計學院的合作中他高度認同分院在培養設計類人才上的教育目標以及對國際化道路的堅持。Tony Brown作為院長加入艾德藝術設計學院，將是艾德成為國際一流設計學院的發展進程中至關重要的一刻。

作為國際上最早以尖端科技創作裝置作品的藝術家之一，Tony Brown以數字媒體裝置為創作媒介，關注正在發生的社會、文化、技術和經濟等方面的深刻變化，捕捉並思考其存在的多樣性。其作品在諸多國際性展覽均有展出，如卡塞爾文獻展、紐約軍械庫藝術博覽會、巴黎國際當代藝術博覽會等，並被加拿大、美國、亞洲及歐洲等多個國際知名的美術館及私人收藏機構展示和收藏。
在堅持藝術道路的同時，Tony Brown也一直持續在教育領域的實踐，曾在加拿大、美國、亞洲及歐洲多所藝術設計院校執教和講學，擁有豐富的教育經驗。作為法國巴黎國立高等美術學院終身教授，從2002年起，主持學院 「塞納計劃」 (La Seine)項目。同時他還出任帕森斯設計學院巴黎分院學術院長。
近年來Tony Brown亦將自己的創作實踐拓展至藝術設計領域。2012年，應邀為銀川美術館藝術家村做整體概念設計，作為藝術總監為整個建築項目提供設計指導；2015年，成為COGITO首席設計師，在觀念敘事與眼鏡的實用功能之間建立詩意的關聯，重新定義眼鏡與使用者之間的關係，推出的聯名系列眼鏡大獲成功。

Tony Brown在作為學院國際學術顧問期間，一直關注並指導學院在學科發展上的未來洞察，曾多次與分院展開深層次、跨領域的互動與合作：出席並擔任西安歐亞學院2019年「University-maker——設計領域的教育行動」論壇重要嘉賓、與當代藝術家隋建國在學院舉辦「雕塑的手和繪畫機器人創造的神秘意外」雙個展、帶領艾德藝術設計學院跨領域實驗班學生進行公共雕塑工作坊，並在此期間為歐亞學院校園創作、落成新的公共雕塑作品。
在Tony Brown出任艾德藝術設計學院院長之際，通過一次專訪，他針對學科融合、全球疫情形勢對設計教育的影響、學院未來的規劃發展等方面給出明確的方向性指引。

艾德藝術設計學院：作為艾德藝術設計學院新院長，您對於學院未來國際化的發展有怎樣的願景及規劃？
As the dean of School of Art and Design, what is your vision and plan for the future international development of the school?
Tony Brown：在我此前擔任艾德藝術設計學院國際學術顧問的時候，我的部分職責是幫助分院國際化的發展，提高分院的國際形象。在此期間，我協助學院建立了許多激勵機制，這些機制已經到位；未來，我將與艾德團隊一起並肩繼續加強和擴展這些機制。除此以外，秉承思考本地化和行動國際化的理念，我們正發展著一個龐大而有效的國際合作夥伴聯盟，艾德藝術設計學院所搭建的合作夥伴關係均為國際最高水平機構，彼此間進行著密切合作，為更多的學生提供國際化學習體驗及出國學習深造的機會。
In my previous role as Academic Advisor for EAaD part of my role was to help in the development of the internationalization and increase the international profile of the school. During this period, I helped to establish a number of incentives that are now in place, and with the EAaD team we will now follow through to reinforce and expand upon them. We are in the ongoing process to develop a large consortium of international partners, we do so with the philosophy of thinking locally and acting internationally. The partnerships EAaD has already developed are all of the highest international level institutions, that are actively working with us locally with the objective to offer an international learning experience in Chinese and English to provide students with the opportunity to study abroad.
艾德藝術設計學院：學科融合似乎是教育未來的趨勢，能否談談您的看法？
Disciplinary integration seems to be the future trend of education. Can you share your views about it?
Tony Brown：我堅信學科融合是設計教育的未來趨勢，因為跨學科教育將豐富和拓寬學生的學習經驗，提高他們適應這個日益向多任務導向發展的世界的能力。我認為艾德學院下一步的工作重點是與歐亞的其他學院和部門——例如與工程學院及商學院發展更為緊密的合作關係，嘗試各類跨學科項目。
I strongly think it is the trend for the future of design education as I believe an inter-disciplinary oriented education will enrich and broaden a student’s learning experience, increasing their capacity to adjust to a world that has increasingly become multi-tasking oriented. In the future, I see the first step for EAaD is to develop closer relationships with other departments in our university to start to develop inter-disciplinary programs such as with the Engineering and Business schools.
艾德藝術設計學院：全球學術圈均受新冠肺炎疫情衝擊，同時，我們正面臨著教育場景與數位化方面的轉型，作為藝術設計類院校的領導者，您認為在這方面我們應該有哪些思考與準備？
The global academic circle is being impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, we are facing the transformation of educational scenes and digitalization. As a leader of the School of Art and Design, what do you think we should consider and prepare in this regard?
Tony Brown：擔任新院長後，我準備做的首要事務是組建團隊，跟蹤監測此次流行病給學術界帶來的巨變，以及它未來對於國際社會發展所產生的影響。當然，特別是在明年，我們將更為謹慎地監測與注意疫情相關變化情況，以確保我們的學生在各類國際交流及遊學出行時的人身安全。除此之外，未來我們的還需要通過數位化實現教育轉型，這是我們發展項目國際化的重要工具，也是鍛鍊教師以及培養學生的重要舉措。
One of the first things I did in my new role as the Dean was to setup a team to start tracking the impact and fallout the pandemic is having on the academic community and the effect it will have on international development. Of course, especially for the next year we will be carefully monitoring the situation to insure the safety of our students especially when considering any travel. Other than this the primary direction is to study the transformation of education through digitalization both as a tool for us to use to develop the internationalization of our program but also as an area for our teachers to address as a new design area to train the students for.
艾德藝術設計學院：您曾提到歐亞學院「是一所關於未來的院校」，您認為在面向未來的進程中，學院在管理、制度、教學、空間上的應該如何行動，發揮效能？
You once mentioned that "Xi'an Eurasian University is a school for the future". In the future-oriented process, how do you think the School of Art and Design should act in terms of management, regulation, teaching and space to achieve its effectiveness?
Tony Brown：沒錯，我確實是這麼說的，西安歐亞學院是一所年輕的大學，擁有年輕、開放、靈活的師資隊伍，與此同時，它是一所公私立機制良好結合、共同運行的學院，因此形成了這個肩負使命並充滿活力的組合。
Yes, I did say that because Xi'an Eurasian University is a young University with a young open flexible faculty and a University that has a healthy mix of state and private sector working well together, forming a responsible and dynamic combination. As previously mentioned our student will have to be prepared to enter an increasingly multi-tasking environment that is often driven by economic shifts linked to rapid technological change and societal needs.
如前所述，因由快速發展的技術變革和不斷變化的社會經濟變化所驅動，未來，我們的學生必將投身於多任務環境之中，考慮到這一點，我的重要職責將會確保學生接受必要的技術工具培訓，並由合格的教師以創新創作方式教學，不斷升級工作室及教學方式，以適應學生的需求。接下來的一年裡，我將與分院副院長一起，確保教師的教學方法，旨在幫助我們的學生在學術上取得進步，在專業上取得成功。
Considering this it is an important part of my role to ensure that the students are both trained with the necessary technological tools and prepared to work in an innovative creative fashion by qualified teachers in studios that are regularly upgraded to accommodate the students』 needs. Over the next year with the Vice Deans we will be paying special attention to ensure that the pedagogical methodology of the teachers is designed to help our students to advance academically and succeed professionally.
艾德藝術設計學院：能否請您給學院的師生以及未來的學生幾句贈言？
Could you please give a few words of advice and encouragement to the teachers and students of the school and future students?
Tony Brown：作為一名學生，我曾在世界各地的不同學校求學過，作為一名教授，我在世界各地的許多院校教書過，如果我現在是一名年輕學生，在意一所學校及學院現在及未來將要賦予我的一切，我會毫不猶豫地選擇成為這裡的學生。
Well, as a student I studied at a number of schools and as a professor I have taught in many institutions all over the world, if I were a young student today and knowing what I know now, when considering what Xi』an Eurasian University and EAaD can offer me now and in the future I would not hesitate to be a student here.
