嚴格地說，to live on後面要跟sth，不跟sb, 意思是「靠什麼活著」。to live off後面可以跟sb或sth，意思分別是「靠什麼人養活」和"靠什麼活著」。從現有常用的英語詞典來看，還沒有to live on sb的搭配。但是，從搜索google的結果來看，會偶然發現國外網站有to live on sb的說法。也許to live on sb會慢慢被接受。例如：
1.他們靠吃麵包和奶酪活著。
They live on a diet of bread and cheese.
2. 這個失業工人靠失業救濟金為生。
1) This unemployed worker lives on unemployment benefit.
2) This unemployed worker lives off unemployment benefit.
"啃老族"指既沒有上學、也沒有就業、或接受職業技能培訓，而必須依靠父母養活的青年人。英國英語中，NEET指啃老族的一員，NEET group 指啃老族群體。NEET 是 Not currently engaged in Education, Employment or Training 或Not in Education, Employment or Training 的縮略語。美國英語稱之為boomerang child或boomerang kid。boomerang原指澳大利亞土著居民的飛去來錫。例如：
3.調查顯示：我國目前有大約七成的失業青年靠父母養活，因而成為啃老族。
An investigation indicates that about 70% of the unemployed young people in our country now live off their parents, thus becoming Neets.
4.大多數啃老族在小時候養成依賴父母的習慣，缺乏獨立應對社會的自信和能力。
As most of the Neets have formed a habit of depending on their parents since they were young, they lack the self-confidence and the ability to cope with the society independently,
5.許多啃老族不願意應對來自現實的壓力，因而選擇靠父母養活。
Many Neets are reluctant to cope with the pressure from the reality， thus choosing to live off their parents.

將adult dependent child譯為"啃老族」是不妥的。它的意思是「有心理缺陷或生理缺陷的需撫養的成年子女」，比「啃老族」的含義寬泛。例如：
14.一個需撫養的成年子女是因為心理缺陷或生理缺陷而不能自理的人。
An adult dependent child is one who is incapable of self-care because of a mental or physical disability.
15.這個需撫養的成年子女具有永久性的生理缺陷。
The adult dependent child has a permanent physical impairment.
