下圖是20根火柴棍組成的5個同樣大小的小正方形,請你移動三根火柴棍,使圖中的小正方形變成7個。
Here are five small squares of the same size, which are made up of 20 matchsticks. Please move three matchsticks, so that number of small squares become seven.
先別著急移動火柴,我們先用數學的方式審視一下問題:每個小正方形需要4根火柴棍,七個也就是28根。但是題目中只有20根,所以有8根火柴棍被公用,也就是說圖形應是比較緊湊的。
Let’s sit back and do some Maths. Each small square needs 4 matchsticks, 7 of which are 28. In the question there are only 20 matches, which means 8 matchsticks will be shared, which also means the figure should be relatively more compact.

1.多嘗試,不要害怕失敗。
2.改變我們習慣看問題的方式,嘗試從不同的角度去思考問題,即使有些角度看起來很隨意,它們可能使我們更接近答案。
3.批判性思維。對於任何方法不要帶有偏見,並保持一定的獨創性。
When we solve the matchstick puzzles, we should pay attention to our mindset:
1. Keep trying. Don't be afraid of failure.
2. Change our normal way of thinking and try different perspectives. Some seemingly random perspectives may take us closer to the solution.
3. Critical thinking. Don't be biased against any method, and keep a moderate amount of originality.
