Baboon opened his sleepy eyes.
小狒狒睜開了他睏倦的眼睛。
Ahead was the great forest.
眼前是一片廣闊的森林。
"Look, " said his mother.
「看啊，」他的媽媽說道。
"That is the world."
「那裡就是世界了。」
Baboon slid from his mother's back.
小狒狒從媽媽的背上滑了下來。
"So, the world is green," he said.
「所以，世界是綠色的呀，」小狒狒說道。
"Some of it," said his mother.
「有一部分是綠色的，」媽媽說。
And she led Baboon among the tall trees.
然後，媽媽帶著小狒狒爬上了樹。
A turtle sat in the middle of the road.
一隻烏龜坐在路的中間。
Its eyes were closed and it barely moved.
它的眼睛是閉上的，並且勉強的往前爬。
Baboon watched and waited for the turtle to pass.
小狒狒看著它然後等著烏龜爬過去。
He waited a long time,
他等了好久啊。
"The world is slow," he said.
「世界是慢的，」他說。
"It can be, " said his mother.
「世界可以是慢的啊，」媽媽說道。
When the turtle had passed, Baboon followed his mother.
當烏龜爬過去的時候，小狒狒跟著媽媽一起前進。
At the edge of the great forest, a fire burned in the bush.
走到森林邊緣的時候，一團火在灌木叢中燒了起來。
Baboon moved closed to the fire.
小狒狒靠近了火苗。
Soon he could feel its heat.
不久，小狒狒就覺得燙燙的了。
Baboon leaped backward.
小狒狒趕緊往後跳。
"The world is hot! " he said.
「世界是熱的！」他說。
"Not always, " said his mother.
「也不總是這樣，」媽媽說道。
She led Baboon to a small lake.
媽媽帶著小狒狒來到一條小河前。
A crocodile lay on the sandy bank.
一隻鱷魚躺在沙岸上。
It opened its mouth wide.
它張開了大嘴。
"Careful, " said Baboon's mother.
「小心點兒！」小狒狒的媽媽說道。
"The crocodile might eat you."
「鱷魚會把你吃掉的。」
Baboon did not want to be eaten.
小狒狒不想被吃掉。
So he ran into the bush.
所以他跑進了灌木叢中。
"The world is hungry," he said.
「世界是飢餓的啊，」他說。
"Sometimes you are hungry, too," said his mother.
「有的時候你也是餓的啊，」媽媽說道。
Soon the elephants came, four by four.
不久後，大象們連成排走了過來。
They thundered loud and shook the ground.
他們發出很大的隆隆聲並且震動著土地。
A gazelle passed.
一隻羚羊穿過大象們，
He was not slow like the turtle, but quick and fast.
他可不想烏龜一樣慢吞吞的，羚羊的速度快極了。
A rhinoceros darted out of the bushes.
一隻犀牛從灌木叢中衝了出來。
He grunted at Baboon.
他向小狒狒發出了呼呼聲。
Baboon was afraid.
小狒狒很害怕。
"He will not hurt you," said his mother.
「他不會傷害你的，」媽媽說道。
Baboon took his mother's hand, and they started across a field.
小狒狒握著媽媽的手，然後他們開始穿越田野了。
Baboon hid in the tall grass.
小狒狒藏進了高高的草叢裡。
His mother hid, too.
他的媽媽也藏起來了。
When they found each other, they lay down, side by side.
當他們找到對方的時候，他們肩並肩的躺了下來。
"The world is soft, " said Baboon.
「世界是溫柔的，」小狒狒說。
And he was happy.
並且他開心極了。
Baboon stretched and rolled over.
小狒狒被媽媽拉著轉了一圈又一圈。
A bird flew by.
飛過一隻鳥。
A cloud passed overhead.
飄過一朵雲。
And Baboon fell asleep.
就這樣小狒狒睡著了。
When he woke, the sun was going down.
當他醒來時，太陽已經下山了。
Baboon watched it disappear behind the trees.
小狒狒看著太陽消失在了樹木的背後。
"Come along, "said his mother.
「跟我來，」媽媽說道。
And they walked on.
然後他們出發了。
Baboon followed his mother up a tree.
小狒狒跟著媽媽爬上了樹。
Across from him sat a monkey.
在他的對面坐著一隻猴子。
He was like Baboon.
他和小狒狒長得真像啊。
"Is he the world, too? " asked Baboon.
「他也是世界嗎？」小狒狒問道。
"He is," said his mother. "Just as you are."
「他是的，」媽媽說道。「就像你也是世界一樣。」
Baboon watched quietly.
小狒狒安靜的看著。
Then he followed his mother down the tree.
然後他跟著媽媽一起從樹上下來了。
Now the elephants were huddled together.
現在大象們聚在了一起。
The gazelles were resting.
羚羊們也在休息了。
There was no more fire and the light was gone from the sky.
這裡沒有了團團烈火，亮光也從天空中消失了。
Baboon climbed onto his mother's back.
小狒狒爬到了媽媽的後背上。
"The world is dark," he said.
「世界是黑暗的，」他說。
"Sometimes, " whispered his mother, carrying him home.
「有時是這樣，」媽媽低聲細語道，然後帶著小狒狒回家了。
Baboon looked around.
小狒狒看了看周圍。
He blinked.
他眨了眨眼睛。
Everything was black as far as he could see.
他看見的東西都是黑色的。
He laid his head against his mother's soft neck.
小狒狒的頭倚靠在媽媽柔軟的脖頸上。
"The world is big, "he said.
「世界可真大啊，」他說。
"Yes, " said his mother softly.
「是啊，」媽媽溫柔的說道。
"The world is big."
「世界可真大。」
