前幾天，我的一個朋友因為不想去參加一個活動而請我幫他支招，應該怎麼推脫，按我跟他說的做了之後呢，果然逃脫了，他很感激，跟我說： Thanks for getting me off the hook.
hook這個單詞有掛鈎、吊鉤的意思，off the hook是說從吊鉤上下來嗎？
If you are off the hook, you have escaped from a difficult situation. 所以off the hook，是說你從一個困難的境地的逃脫出來，也就說我們說的「脫身、擺脫困境」。
上學的時候，有些課實在不想去上，就會找人幫忙頂替，就像有人考試找槍手一樣。
John's agreed to attend the class in my place so that gets/lets me off the hook.
John答應替我去上課，讓我能夠脫身。
最近聽一些朋友抱怨，說是單位各種各樣的會特別多，關鍵是還都逃不了，真的是很痛苦。

It means no longer in trouble or difficulty.
