引言INTRODUCTION
聖誕節是基督徒敬拜的節期。
Christmas is a time for Christians to worship.
我們透過《新約聖經》的記載紀念基督的降生:例如《馬太福音》1-2章,《路加福音》1-2章。
We remember the birth of Christ, through NewTestament narratives such as Matthew 1-2 and Luke 1-2.
我們也透過熟悉的《舊約聖經》經文來紀念基督的降生。例如:《以賽亞書》7:14,9:6。
We also remember the birth of Christ throughfamiliar Old Testament prophecies concerning the birth of Christ, such asIsaiah 7:14 and Isaiah 9:6.
今天,我們透過《舊約聖經》的預言,特別是韓德爾《彌賽亞》所用的經文,來敬拜。
Today, we will worship by using Old Testamentprophecies, particular those texts used in Handel’s Messiah.

Old Testament texts gives us a deeperunderstanding of New Testament texts.
《彌賽亞》:在24天寫成。首演是為了愛爾蘭孤兒院籌款。一年之後在倫敦演出。
Handel’s Messiah was composed in 24 days. It was first performed as a fundraiser for anorphanage in Ireland. One year later, itwas performed in London.
不可比擬的榮美的作品。韓德爾說,寫作時,他好像看到了上帝的榮耀。
It is an incomparable, gloriouscomposition. Handel thought he saw God’smajesty as he wrote it.
詹南斯為韓德爾提供很多《舊約聖經》經文,非常精彩。
The librettist, Charles Jennens, used the OldTestament of the King James Bible (as well as the Psalms from the Book ofCommon Prayer) for the lyrics he gave to Handel. Splendid choices.
韓德爾非常敬畏上帝,敬重《聖經》。
《彌賽亞》沒有一身說法,沒有演員扮演任何角色。沒有重演歷史事件。只引用上帝的話。
Handel wrote it in great reverence to God andHis Word.
There are no impersonations, no 「first person」speech. No re-enactment of events.
It only contains quotations from God’s Word.
Both the lyrics and Handel’s composition aredirect rebukes against, and critique of Deism (the 18th centuryprecursor of liberal theology).
不論是詹南斯選的經文,或是韓德爾的作曲,都是駁斥『自然神論』的當頭棒喝。(註:18世紀的自然神論是自由派/新派神學的前身。)

There are three parts to Messiah. Part I is the Christmas portion. The second and third parts narrate Christ’s passion and resurrection, and Hisreturn.
讓我們透過《舊約聖經》,特別是《彌賽亞》選用的經文來敬拜主。
Let us worship the Lord through the OldTestament, particularly the texts used in the Messiah.
I. 讓我們來敬拜我們偉大,榮耀的上帝:

Part I,the Christmas portion, can be divided into five scenes:
Scene 1: Old Testament propheciesconcerning the Day of the Lord (the day of the Messiah);
Scene 2: The Lord will come in his dayto judge;
Scene 3: Prophecies concerning theVirgin Birth;
Scene 4: The birth of the Son-Messiah.
Scene 5: The ministry of Christ onearth.
2. 第一景之前有序曲。E小調。莊嚴,加上興奮的一段。
Thereis an Overture before the first scene. Key: E minor. Solemn, includes adynamic portion.

InScene 1, Isaiah 40:1-5 is the core text.

The core text for Scene 4 – the Birthof the Messiah – is Luke 2:8-14.

Isaiah40 opens up the prophecy of 「the day of the Lord.」
(Note:Isaiah is one book written by one prophet in the 8th centuryBC. Chapters 40-66 features the day ofthe Lord more clearly. We rejecttheories that assume 3 Isaiah’s wrote the book.)
2. 彌賽亞(基督)來,就是主(耶和華)來。彌賽亞的日子,就是主(耶和華)的日子。
The comingof the Messiah (Christ) is the coming of the Lord (Jehovah).
TheDay of the Messiah is the Day of the Lord.
3. 男高音宣敘調。Tenor recitative. 《以賽亞書》Isaiah40:1-3
你們的上帝說:你們要安慰,安慰我的百姓,要對耶路撒冷說安慰的話,又向她宣告說:她爭戰的日子已滿了;她的罪孽赦免了…。
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people,saith your God; speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem; and cry unto her, that herwarfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned.
在曠野,有人聲喊著說:預備耶和華的路,在沙漠地修平我們上帝的道。
The voice of him that crieth inthe wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert ahighway for our God.
4. 《以賽亞書》Isaiah40:1。

Weoverhear words in heaven. God says tothe angels: 「Comfort ye, comfort ye my people.」

The solo is independent of theorchestra’s accompaniment.
要對耶路撒冷說安慰的話。
「Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem.」
上帝子民的戰爭已經結束。以色列被擄的日子將結束。(這是預言。)
The warfare of God’s people is「accomplished」 (ended). Captivity willend. (This is a prophecy.)

Her iniquities will be pardoned. No longer through sacrifices; the Lordhimself will accomplish
theforgiveness of sins.

Every valley shall be exalted, andevery mountain and hill made low; the crooked straight, and the rough placesplain.

Allbarriers (valleys, rough places) will be flattened. Tenor solo’s runs.
上帝的子民預備彌賽亞的來臨:認罪悔改,行公義。
God’speople prepare for the Messiah’s coming by repentance and practicingrighteousness.
8. 主必預備一個先鋒,發出聲音/信息:耶和華要來。
The Lord will prepare aforerunner/herald; he will issue a message: The Lord will come.
耶和華來是大而可畏的事!出埃及記:耶和華的來臨使百姓畏縮,逃避!
Thecoming of the Lord is an awesome thing. In Exodus, the coming of the Lord made the Israelites retreat and runaway!
因此,上帝安慰祂的子民。
Thus God comforts his people.
施洗約翰必為主預備道路。
John the Baptist will prepare the wayfor the Lord’s coming.
他就是在曠野裡的聲音。
Heis that voice in the wilderness.
10. 《彌賽亞》的第一首合唱。Firstchorus in the oratorio. 《以賽亞書》Isaiah 40:5
耶和華的榮耀必然顯現;凡有血氣的必一同看見;因為這是耶和華親口說的。
And the glory of the Lord shall berevealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the Lord hathspoken it.
韓德爾寫《彌賽亞》特別節制:不太過分。這一首:女低音輕輕進來。
Handelshows great restraint – no excess, e.g. in tempo. Here, muted alto beginning.
11. 上帝的榮耀就是祂的同在。
Theglory of the Lord is his presence.
出埃及時,耶和華的榮耀透過雲柱和火柱顯明。大而可畏!現在,上帝親自要來。
Duringthe Exodus, God’s glory was shown in the cloud and the pillar of fire.
Awesome! But now, God himself comes. He personally comes.
主必大能地的來臨。祂來時,必要施行拯救和審判,這兩方面都彰顯祂的榮耀。
Godwill come in mighty power. When hecomes, he will judge and he will save.
Bothjudgment and salvation reveal his glory.
12. 凡有血氣的必一同看見。
Andall flesh shall see it together.
公然彰顯:凡有血氣的都能看見。
God’s revelation is a publicrevelation: all flesh (living beings) will see.
啟示是公開的,具體的,在歷史,在時空中。(有別於新正統神學的所謂『啟示』)。
God’s revelation is public andconcrete. He reveals himself in history,in time and space.
(Wereject the Neo-Orthodox/Barthain view of so-called 「revelation.」
有主耶和華親口說的話實現預告,作為見證。
The mouth of the Lord has spoken. God himself sends the prophecy. God is his own witness.
耶穌基督道成肉身,是應驗《聖經》的話。參考:林前15:1-4
Theincarnation of the Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of thewords of Scripture. I Cor.15:1-4.
主所作的,主(事先,事後)說話。主不僅僅行大事,祂作命題式的(話語的)啟示。
TheLord acts. Before he acts, hespeaks. After he acts, he speaks.
Goddoes not merely act. He speaks. He gives propositional (verbal) revelation.
(我們不接受受新正統神學影響的所謂聖經神學。)
(Wereject the so-called 「biblical theology」 influenced by Barthian/Neo-orthodoxtheology.)
14. 主的榮耀彰顯;全地看見;主的話保證這事必成就:

TheLord will reveal his glory; all flesh will see it; God’s word guarantees it.
Thefour-part chorus simultaneously sings these three facts.
讓我們為這榮耀的啟示,榮耀的救恩感謝上帝。

這啟示,這救恩已經來到。基督已經降世。
Letus thank God for the glorious revelation and salvation.
Receive the word of promise. Receive the word of fulfillment.
Thisrevelation and salvation has come. Christ has come.

Let Us Worship with the Fear of theLord:
The Lord Comes to Judge: Scene 2’sTheme
1. 主來的日子是大而可畏的。祂要震動自然界和人類世界。祂要來到祂子民當中,
施行審判,施行拯救。這是關乎祂子民的事,也是關乎外邦萬國的事。上帝永遠為王!
TheDay of the Lord will be awesome. Hewill shake nature and the human world.
Hecomes to judge; he comes to save. Thisconcerns his people; this also concerns all the Gentile nations. God will sit on the throne!
祂的日子是萬國所『羨慕』的:上帝透過祂的同在(聖殿),在列國中彰顯自己的榮耀。
The day of his coming is the 「desire」 of thenations.
Godwill reveal his glory among the nations through his presence (temple).
因為上帝最關心的是祂的榮耀。
BecauseGod is most concerned with his glory.
第二景引用的先知預言,與第一景的《以賽亞書》40章相對照,相輔相成。

Thus saith the Lord of Hosts: -Yet once a little while and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, the sea,and the dry land; and I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nationsshall come.
《瑪拉基書》 Malachi 3:1
『你們所尋求的主必忽然進入祂的殿;立約的使者,就是你們所仰慕的,快要來到。』萬軍之耶和華說。
The Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenlycome to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in;Behold, He shall come, saith the Lord of Hosts.
3. 《哈該書》2:6-7 的背景。The context of Haggai 2:6-7.
哈該在(波斯)大利烏王第二年開始從事先知的事工。(主前520年)。
Haggaibegan his ministry 「during the 2nd year of Darius the (Persian)king,」 520 BC.
早在主前538年古列王下令,以色列人開始重建聖殿。但不久即停工。
Earlier,in 538 BC, Cyrus King of Persia issued an edict; the people of Israel beganre-building the
Temple. But soon they stopped the work.
現在,先知哈該傳兩個信息:第一,要認罪悔改,重建聖殿;第二,上帝應許,將來有更大的福分要臨到聖殿,借著彌賽亞賜恩福。
NowHaggai the prophet preached two messages: repent and re-build the Temple; andGod promises that greater blessings will come on the Temple, and through theMessiah.
是的,重建的『第二聖殿』不如當年所羅門王所建的殿。
True,the 「Second Temple」 being built now is not as glorious as Solomon’s Temple.
但是:上帝是立約守約的上帝(第5節);祂必與祂的子民同在。
But:God is faithful to his covenant (v. 5), he will be with his people.
上帝宣告:聖殿將來的榮耀,要比所羅門的殿更大。
Goddeclares: the future glory of the Temple will far outstrip Solomon’s Temple.
我們,新約教會,就是那更榮耀的殿:由生命組成,不是石頭建成。《彼得前書》2:5。
We,the New Testament church, are that 「more glorious temple,」 made with lives, notstones.
IPeter 2:5.
4. 《哈該書》Haggai2:6-7。
上帝必震動天地,滄海旱地,和萬國。
Godwill shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land, and allnations.
上帝掌管歷史:波斯由希臘人打敗。地上的國度興衰,是必然的。唯有上帝永遠作王。
Godis in control of history: Persia was defeated by the Greeks. Empires rise and fall, this isinevitable. Only God remains kingforever.
耶穌基督死時:地震。祂的死,帶來宇宙性的後果。
WhenJesus died on the cross, there was earthquake. His death had cosmic consequences.
上帝將來還要再次震動天地。目前的世界秩序要結束。《希伯來書》12:26-28。
Godwill once more shake the heavens and the earth: the present world order willcease. Hebrews 12:26-28.
5. 萬國所羨慕的(或萬國的珍寶)必要前來。
Thedesire (or treasure) of the nations will come.
《以斯拉記》Ezra6:1-12
大利烏王根據古列王的諭令,吩咐將巴比倫人從聖殿奪去的金器銀器,還給耶路撒冷的聖殿。並吩咐把建造聖殿所需的,供給猶太人。
KingDarius follows Cyrus』 earlier decree, and orders that the gold and silver vesselscaptured by Babylon be returned to the Temple in Jerusalem; also orders thatmaterials and costs incurred for building the Temple be supplied to the Jews.
這個『第二聖殿』預表耶穌基督。祂才是真聖殿。
ThisSecond Temple points to Jesus Christ. Heis the true Temple.
耶穌基督要召聚萬國;萬國萬王要把他們的榮耀帶進天上的耶路撒冷。
《啟示錄》21:24, 26.
Jesuswill call all nations and all kings. Nations and kings will bring their glories into the heavenlyJerusalem. Revelation 21:24, 26.

『你們所尋求的主必忽然進入祂的殿;立約的使者,就是你們所仰慕的,快要來到。』萬軍之耶和華說。
The Lord, whom ye seek, shallsuddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom yedelight in; Behold, He shall come, saith the Lord of Hosts.
主耶和華要來到聖殿;聖約的使者要來到,就是眾民所喜悅的。
The Lord will come into his temple; themessenger of the covenant will come to the Temple.

But who may abide the day of Hiscoming, and who shall stand when He appeareth?

For He is like a refiner’s fire.

Ezrareturned to Jerusalem in 458 BC. Nehemiah returned in 445 BC.
Malachiprophesied during this period.

Ezra,Nehemiah, and Malachi all confronted the sins of the Jews:
Theymarried foreign wives; neglected the tithe; the priests were degenerate; andthey committed sins of social injustice.

Insum, they broke the covenant God made with them.
9. 《瑪拉基書》的信息。Themessage of Malachi.

Althoughpeople violate the covenant, God is a God who keeps the covenant. He still loves them. (1:2-5)
瑪拉基的信息:悔改,否則必遭上帝的咒詛。(《瑪拉基書》3:7,9)
Malachi’smessage: repent, or else come under God’s curse. (3:7, 9)
10. 上帝的子民不再相信上帝的應許。他們對上帝失望。
漠不關心,不相信上帝的應許,不再全心敬拜祂,服事祂。
他們甚至控告上帝:上帝的公義在哪裡?(2:17)
God’speople were disillusioned; discouraged; and they doubted God’s promises.
Theyexperienced poverty, drought, economic hardship.
Theywere disillusioned with God.
Theywere indifferent to God’s promises, and to worship and serve God with all theirhearts.
Theyeven cynically charged God: where is God’s justice? (2:17)
11. 上帝的回應: God’s response: 《瑪拉基書》Malachi3:1
你們所尋求的主必忽然進入祂的殿;立約的使者,就是你們所仰慕的,快要來到。』
The Lord, whom ye seek, shallsuddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom yedelight in; Behold, He shall come.
12. 上帝不是不顧分辨善惡的。祂分辨善惡!祂必快來審判,煉潔淨祂的子民。
God is not indifferent toward goodand evil. He does differentiate good andevil!
He will come to judge, refine, and purgehis people.
不過,當上帝來執行公義時,祂先審判自己的子民!
Butwhen God comes to execute justice, he will first judge his own people!
我們能接受嗎?能經得起嗎?
Canwe accept/endure it?
13. 《瑪拉基書》Malachi3:2, 3
祂來的日子,誰能當得起呢?祂顯現的時候,誰能立得住呢?因為祂如鍊金之人的火。
祂必潔淨利未人,他們就憑公義獻供物給耶和華。

14. 作為新約教會,我們比舊約的猶太人更榮耀。
我們有耶穌,祂是真會幕,真聖殿,真大祭司。
但是我們的責任更大,上帝的要求更高。
Asthe New Testament church, we are more glorious than the Old Testament people ofIsrael.
Wehave Jesus, the true Tabernacle, the true Temple, the true High Priest.
Butwe also bear a heavier responsibility; God requires more from us.
15. 先知書要這樣讀。好像帶上立體聲的耳機來聽音樂。
恩典與審判。安慰的話和警告的話。
都集中在耶穌基督身上。
Thisis how we should read the books of the Prophets.
Itis like putting on stereo earphones to listen to music.
Graceand judgment; comforting words and words of warning.
Andthey all focus on Jesus.
讓我們存敬畏的心來敬拜。上帝不僅是救主,祂也是審判者。
Letus worship with the fear of the Lord. Our God is not only Savior, He is judge.

IV. 不要怕,在一切難處要信靠上帝,

Heis True Light That Shines in Darkness: Scene 3’s Theme
1. 第三景的骨幹經文 Core textfor Scene 3:《以賽亞書》Isaiah7:14, 9:6。
《以賽亞書》Isaiah 7:14 – 《馬太福音》Matthew 1:23
必有童女懷孕生子,給他起名叫以馬內利,『上帝與我們同在』。
Behold, a virgin shall conceive,and bear a Son, and shall call his name Emmanuel, God with us.
《以賽亞書》Isaiah 9:6
因有一嬰孩為我們而生;有一子賜給我們。政權必擔在祂的肩頭上;祂名稱為奇妙,策士,全能的上帝,永在的父,和平的君。
For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Sonis given, and the government shall be upon His shoulder; and His name shall becalled Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Princeof Peace.

北國以色列與敘利亞結盟,抵抗亞述。現在向南國猶大宣戰。
NorthernIsrael has allied with Syria to resist Assyria. They now declare war against Southern Judah.
猶大王亞哈斯受到威脅。
Ahaz,king of Judah, was threatened.
先知以賽亞的信息,是審判的信息,也是盼望的信息。
Isaiah’smessage is a message of judgment and of hope.
以色列與敘利亞必滅亡。(第4節。)
Israeland Syria will be destroyed. (Verse 4.)
這預言應驗了:敘利亞於主前732 年滅亡;以色列於主前722年亡國,被亞述擄掠。
Thisprophecy was fulfilled: Syria was destroyed 732 BC, Israel destroyed 722 BC.
上帝對猶大的信息:要信靠祂,要堅強。(第9節。)
God’smessage to Judah: Trust Him, be firm. (Verse 9.)
徵兆:同貞女要懷孕,生子。
Sign:A virgin will conceive, and give birth to a son.
2. 童貞女生子,至終透過耶穌基督應驗。《馬太福音》1:22,23.
Thisprophecy is ultimately fulfilled by the virginbirth of Christ. Matthew 1:22, 23.
3. 童貞女生子,也是應驗:《以賽亞書》40:9 ,60:2, 3!
TheVirgin Birth also fulfills Isaiah 40:9, 60: 2, 3!

報好消息給錫安的啊,你要登高山;報好消息給耶路撒冷的啊,你要極力揚聲。揚聲不要懼怕,對猶大的城邑說:看哪,你們的上帝!
O thou that tellest good tidingsto Zion, get thee up into the high mountain; O thou that tellest good tidingsto Jerusalem, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; sayunto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
《以賽亞書》Isaiah 60:2, 3
看哪,黑暗遮蓋大地,幽暗遮蓋萬民,耶和華卻要顯現照耀你;祂的榮耀要現在你的身上。萬國要來就你的光,君王要來就你發現的光輝。
For, behold, darkness shall cover theearth, and gross darkness the people; but the Lord shall arise upon thee, andHis glory shall be seen upon thee, and the Gentiles shall come to thy light,and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
基督道成肉身,對猶大和耶路撒冷:對所有敬畏上帝,等候祂的救恩來到的子民,是大好信息。
Theincarnation of Christ is good news to Judah and Jerusalem: all God’s people whofear him and wait for his salvation.
基督道成肉身是真光,照耀在行走在黑暗中的人。耶穌基督來,要滅絕死亡和魔鬼的作為。
Theincarnation of Christ is light for people in darkness. He came to destroy death and the work of theDevil.
4. 我們要信靠耶穌基督,不靠人間的勢力。
We must trust the Lord Jesus Christ,not human forces.
祂是黑暗中的光。
He is light in darkness.

讓我們來敬拜我們偉大,榮耀的上帝:

The Day of the Lord Has Come, Messiah Is Born.
讓我們領受上帝救恩的應許,
特別因為這應許已應驗,已實現:
主耶和華的日子已來到。
Let Us Receive God’s Promise of Salvation,
Especially Since the Promise Has BeenFulfilled:
The Day of the Lord Has Come.
讓我們以敬畏上帝的心來敬拜:
主要來施行審判:祂已來,祂必再來。
Let Us Worship with the Fear of the Lord:
The Lord Has Come to Judge. He Will Return to Judge.
不要怕,在一切難處要信靠上帝,
因為:神子彌賽亞已誕生,祂是黑暗中照耀的真光。
Do Not Fear, Trust God for All Difficulties:
The Son-Messiah Is Born: He is True Light ThatShines in Darkness.
