The Exhibition Where Kids
Fall in Love with Music
Aesthetic education has become one of the main focuses for many households. A lot of the kids take piano and painting lessons on weekends. It’s a truth universally accepted by education institutions — Art education is more than just teaching children how to play an instrument or how to draw and paint, but firstly fostering their interest in art, so that they are able to grasp the essence of art and emotionally relate to those masterpieces.
Word has it that there’s this kid who hated playing the piano but has been binge-playing ever since he went to an exhibition in Shanghai. What on earth is this exhibition?
The LWA Brand Management and the Shanghai Concert Hall — present to you 「The Beethoven Experience — Commemorating 250 Years of Beethoven」.
「The Exhibition makes Beethoven accessible to all with technology and constructs a multi-dimensional music space featuring auditory, visual and tactile experience.」— People's Daily

A Visualized Beethoven,
An Auditory Exhibition
We can easily associate Beethoven with cheerful dynamic melodies and rather solemn portraits.
The first thing we see at the Exhibition is a 20-meter interactive wall—「the Color of Beethoven」. With the Fifth Symphony playing in the background, you can watch the color transition and dynamics of the wall projection. Each and every color represents a certain emotion: red is passion and confidence, orange is amiability and care, pink is romance and gentleness, blue is somberness and depth… Through visualization of melody into colors, it would be easier for kids to understand what musicians are trying to communicate and articulate in their works. What’s more interesting is that kids can interact with the wall by touching it. The colors flow according to their motions. The curatorial team intends to foster their interest in music and art in such a fun and relaxing manner.
The Quality Time Spent with Your Family
Unlike other serious and elusive art exhibitions, this is actually a once-in-a-life-time art journey for the whole family, where parents and kids can experience, learn and play together. You can see parents and kids studying the introduction to the art pieces and installations, watching videos, and actually participating in the exhibition on the site.
Through a 360° film featuring the highlights of Beethoven’s life, you get to see the musician from nothing to greatness. The immersive Circarama effect transports you to the village in Bonn and the palace in Vienna. At the same time, the animated visuals can easily speak to kids. We set up some cushions in the middle of the room for families to enjoy the film and simply relax on.
On the 「Exploring Beethoven’s Music World」 installation, you will be the conductor, orchestrating your own show by moving the cylinders on the interactive hologram table. In this way, you deconstruct the symphony and get to understand the characteristics of different sections and how they sound together.
In 「the Workshop of Beethoven」, you will get to see how musicians composed music centuries ago. Our experts have done their research extensively and created a larger-than-life scale diorama of Beethoven’s workspace. A quaint piano, shabby furniture pieces, tatty suitcases, disarranged draft paper, and the view of pedestrians and carriages… All of a sudden, it feels like you were in the street of Vienna in the 17th century. It’s where Beethoven produced his earth-shattering pieces.
Love & Music that Exceed Boundaries
Beethoven left a legacy that is bigger than his music. His tenacity, his perseverance, his will power, they have inspired the generations before us and those to come. Notwithstanding, it’s hardly likely to believe that the great man had ever thought of giving up. We presented to you 「the Testament of Beethoven」 where you can find your way into the inner world of the musician, which we think culminates the Exhibition with an emotional touch.
Heiligenstadt was a turning point for Beethoven. In 1802, he came to Heiligenstadt, a little town on the outskirts of Vienna, to convalesce as directed by the doctor. However, tormented by the disease, he came to the verge of collapse. He decided to write to his brothers before he died. Yet the letter never sent out. He wrote that he cared for his nephews and asked his brothers to cultivate virtues in them. For 「It is my wish that your lives be better and freer from care than I have had, recommend virtue to your children, it alone can give happiness, not money, I speak from experience, it was virtue that upheld me in misery, to it next to my art I owe the fact that I did not end my life with suicide.」
