「purple」為紫色，紫色無論是在東方還是西方普遍都代表著極致尊貴的近義詞。
唐朝規定，三品以上的大員才能穿紫色，所以紫袍是權力與地位的象徵。
而在古代的西方，紫色只有貴族和神職人員才能穿戴，西方也把紫色作為帝王和貴族的專屬色。

有人可能會有疑惑，為什麼是「銀勺子」，而不是「金勺子」呢？
其實「silver spoon」使用的是一種英語中常用的修辭手法「押頭韻」。
且「銀」是貴重金屬，在信仰基督教的國家裡，嬰兒在接受洗禮時教父會給他一把銀湯勺。
因此，人們也就有了用「銀湯勺」來象徵孩子天生富貴的說法
