大家好，歡迎大家來到♥品味童年，英語原版童書♥，《野獸出沒的地方》剛出版的時候收到了人們的抨擊，大人們害怕這麼「野性」的內容會嚇到小孩子，然而40多年過去了，這本書不僅沒有嚇到孩子們還經久不衰。一度獲得1964年凱迪克獎金獎，1970年國際安徒生獎，紐約公共圖書館「每個人都應該知道的100種圖畫書」 等獎項。
童書簡介
•Introduction•
故事的主人公，淘氣的小男孩Max裝扮成大野狼，在家裡胡鬧，追趕小狗。媽媽發脾氣了，罰他呆在臥室，不準吃飯。 於是，小男孩閉上眼，在臥室裡幻想。小男孩幻想自己乘坐小帆船,來到一片森林。小男孩碰見10隻野獸，小男孩和野獸們相處不錯，最後還騎在一頭野獸脖子上，和其他野獸一起，翩翩起舞。和野獸跳完集體舞，小男孩感到寂寞，決定回到媽媽身邊。小男孩回到臥室後，發現一份溫暖的晚餐。

The night Max wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind and another.
那天晚上，麥克斯穿上他的狼服，做了一個又一個惡作劇。
小編註：惡作劇除了mischief大家還能想到什麼說法呢？
常見的說法還有play a joke/trick。
而這裡trick的就是萬聖節時小孩上門要糖都會說的「trick or treat」不給糖就搗亂。
His mother called him "wild thing!"and Max said "I'll eat you up!"
媽媽罵他：「野獸！」麥克斯說：「我要吃掉你！」
小編註：eat up 的意思是吃完，吃光。例如：You can eat up the rest of the food. 這裡直接說I『ll eat you up 而不是I』ll eat you就表現了MAX野性的那一面。
So he was sent to bed without eating anything.
結果媽媽沒讓他吃晚飯，把他關到了房間裡。
That very night in Max's room a forest grew and grew-
正是在那天晚上，麥克斯的房間裡長出了一片樹林。長啊長...
小編註：very 在這裡作為一個強調的作用，表示正是那一天晚上
and grew until his ceiling hung with vines
直到天花板上掛滿了葡萄藤
and the walls became the world all around
牆壁消失在了世界的邊緣
and an ocean tumbled by with a private boat for Max
海上漂來了一艘小船
and he sailed off through night and day
他日夜航行
小編註：sail off 出海 sail for/to 出發前往某地
and in and out of weeks, and almost over a year
一個星期又一個星期，幾乎用了一年的時間
to where the wild things are
到了一個野獸出沒的地方
And when he came to the place where the whild things are
當他來到這個野獸出沒的地方時
they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth
野獸們發出了可怕的咆哮，磨著它們可怕的牙齒
and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws
轉動著它們可怕的眼睛，伸出了它們可怕的爪子。
till Max said "be still!" and tamed them with the magic trick of staring into all their yellow eyes withoutblinking once
「別動！」麥克斯的眼睛一眨也不眨，盯著它們的黃眼睛，用魔法馴服了它們。
and they were frightened and called him the most wild thing of all
它們全都害怕了，把他當成了野獸之王。
and made hime king of all wild things
現在他成了野獸之王
"And now," cried Max,"let the wild rumpus start!"
「現在，」麥克斯喊，「讓野獸們鬧起來吧！」
"Now stop!" Max said and sent the wild things off bed without their supper.
「停！」麥克斯沒給它們晚飯就讓它們去睡覺了。
And Max the king of all wild things was lonely and wanted to be where someone loved him best of all.
可是他這個野獸之王突然感到孤獨起來，想到一個被人愛的地方去。
Then all around from far away across the world he smelled good thing to eat
這時，從遙遠的世界的那一邊，飄來了好吃的東西的香味。
so he gave up being king of where the wild thing are.
他決定放棄在這個野獸出沒的地方當國王了。
But the wild thing cried,"Oh please don't go-we'll eat you up-we love you so!"
可是野獸們喊：「哦，請不要走——我們要把你吃掉——我們如此愛你！」
And Max said,"No!"
麥克斯說：「不！」
The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth
野獸們發出可怕的咆哮，磨著它們可怕的牙齒
and rolled their their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws
轉動著它們可怕的黃眼睛，伸出了它們可怕的爪子。
but Max stepped into his private boat and waved good-bye
但麥克斯還是上了他的小船，揮手說再見了。
and sailed back over a year
然後他航行了一年
and in and out of weeks, and through a day
一個星期又一個星期，經過白天
and into the night of his very own room
又回到了他自己房間的那個夜晚
where he found his supper waiting for him
他發現他的晚飯正等著他
and it was still hot
而飯還是熱的
