每日一句英譯英：His show brought down the house
我們學英語，首先要培養良好的英語學習習慣，而不是「逢英(語)必中」，首先問問是：中文什麼意思？
要知道，我們現在學的英語再好，今後也是基本沒有多大機會把它用起來的。
所以，我們應該首先培養的良好的英語學習習慣是見到英語後：What does it mean if you say His show brought down the house?

我們可以不懂bring down the house的「英語字面」，可以不懂「英語字面」bring down the house的「中文意思」，但是，我們至少懂得下面英語的「英語意思」。我們正是通過下面懂得的「英語意思」理解bring down the house的「英語字面」的，不是通過「中文意思」：

我們是通過「英語意思」so successful,and win applause來理解和記憶「英語字面」bring down the house的：這就叫「用英語學英語」和「用英語理解英語」。我們能用英語理解英語了，就沒必要用中文理解英語，用英語「懂」英語了，因為我們就算用中文翻譯，也可能翻譯不到位。翻譯不到位的中文還不如不翻。直接用英語反而能強化我們的英語能力。
我們英語訓練的意義正在於此。
而且，「英語意思」的表達還不止一種用詞：

我們可以「不懂」某個「英語字面」的「中文意思」，但是，我們如果懂它的「英語意思」就足夠了，我們是在積累英語，哪怕還只是隻言片語，不是中文。
這是我們為之付出十年八年不可逆時光學習英語很重要的一項訓練。
