很多單身朋友選擇在這一天告別單身，一些人參加相親會。【相親】用英文這麼說呢？比較常見的一種說法是blind date。我們來看這句話：
A blind date is a date where the people involved have not met each other previously. The match could have been arranged by mutual friends, relatives or by a dating system。
因為「相親」是「從未晤面的男女經第三者安排所作的約會」，這麼看來英語中的這個「blind」用得真是相當地傳神呢。可不能看到這個說法就望文生義地以為是「盲目約會」或「瞎約會」哦。
除此之外，現在網絡非常發達，很多相親的人在約會之前就已經在網上看到過對方的照片，甚至用聊天軟體聊天過了。
這樣的「相親」叫做nearsighted date，也就是「近視相親」。我們來看這句話：
As opposed to a blind date, where you have no idea what the other person looks like, a nearsighted date is one where you』ve seen a photo or chatted via web before meeting in person。
所以說「近視相親」是相對於「盲約」而言的，後者在見面前根本不知道對方長什麼樣，而前者則事先看過照片或者在網上視頻聊過天。
這聽上去似乎比「blind date」要可靠很多，不過有時候照片也不能代表一切，比如這種尷尬的情況：
The picture he emailed me must have been from before he quit the gym. 我昨天晚上去相親了，他郵件給我的照片肯定是他還在鍛鍊身體的時候拍的。
