第7屆世界軍人運動會開幕式10月18日在湖北省武漢市舉行。以往的軍人運動會主要由軍事機構組織，與往屆不同的是，本次武漢主辦的軍人運動會由軍事機構和當地政府聯合主辦。當地官員表示，主辦機構的變化不但能夠鼓勵更多民眾觀看比賽，同時也有望促進軍民融合以及武漢的全民健身運動。
The opening ceremony of the 7th CISM Military World Games takes place this Friday in Wuhan, Hubei province. Different from the previous military sessions, which were mainly organized by military organizations, this session are co-hosted by the military department and local government. The change of its organizing bodies will not only encourage more members of the public to watch, but also is expected to enhance the military-civilian integration and exercise for all in the city, according to officials.

世界軍人運動會是一個綜合性的世界最高級別軍人運動會，被稱為「軍人的奧運會」，自1995年開始每4年舉行一次。世界軍人運動會由國際軍事體育理事會舉辦，除常規賽項外，還設有其它運動會沒有的軍事五項、空軍五項、海軍五項、跳傘和越野等項目。
為紀念第二次世界大戰結束50周年和《聯合國憲章》的籤署，第一屆世界軍人運動會於1995年9月4日至16日在義大利首都羅馬舉行。當時來自93個國家和地區的4017名軍人運動員參賽，展開了一場沒有硝煙的角逐。這是有史以來，世界各國軍隊第一次在和平環境下歡聚於體育盛會中，因此這屆賽會被稱讚為「世界軍史上具有特殊意義的和平慶典」。
第七屆世界軍人運動會於2019年10月18日在武漢舉行，賽期10天，共設置射擊、遊泳、田徑、籃球等27個大項、329個小項。屆時，將有來自100多個國家的近萬名現役軍人同臺競技。這是我國第一次承辦綜合性國際軍事賽事，也是繼北京奧運會後，我國舉辦的規模最大的國際體育盛會。
