This was powerfully displayed in the movie"The Truman Show."Throughout his entire life,Truman was constantly encouraged to be in fear of leaving his neighborhood or even crossing the waterway.To reinforce these fears,they faked his father's death and made Truman believe he had drowned in those waters–thus Truman was too afraid to board the ferry or cross the bridge that would have led him to freedom!
