Why settle for a pint-sized private jet when you can have one of the world's most advanced commercial jetliners parked in your hangar?
That's clearly the philosophy of one very well-heeled flyer who has bought a Boeing 787 as his (or her) private jet.
It's a bespoke version of the Dreamliner from the Boeing Business Jet unit, hence the official 'BBJ 787' moniker – and it's been individually styled from tip to tail to the modest tastes of its new owner.
Unveiled at the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition in Geneva this weekend, the first private Dreamliner with a fully customised interior was fashioned and fitted out by US firm Greenpoint Technologies – which handles private jet interiors "for private clients and Heads-of-State" – and will soon begin shuttling its anonymous owner around the globe.
"The BBJ 787 is an extraordinary airplane," said David Longridge, Boeing Business Jets president. "The airplane really enables our customers to travel anywhere in the world in unmatched comfort."
Boeing opened its BBJ arm in 1996 with a catalogue of customised Boeing 737s, and today will sell you a private version of every commercial airplane in the Boeing range – including the Boeing 747-800, which will become the private ride of a future US President from 2024.
