The newadministration has yet to weigh in—or to appoint a NASA administrator. But itsambitions may have been hinted at when Mr. Trump evoked some of the wonders theUnited States might achieve by the time of its sestercentenary in this week’sspeech to Congress: 「American footprints on distant worlds,」 he said, 「are nottoo big a dream.」 The onlydistant world any foot will be leaving prints on by 2026 is the Moon.
Such feet do not have to be American. China sent a rover calledYutu to the Moon in2013, and plans a mission to return rocks to Earth thisyear. The idea of landing people on the Moon by 2030, or perhaps even earlier, has been discussed in public. That brings the possibility of yet another race.
In all such races it would be wise, as the XPRIZE shows, to expectdelays. The crew-carrying version of the Dragon is not expected to makeits first flight to the space station until the middle of 2018 at the earliest:sending one around the Moon by the end of that year is a tall order.【6】 That said, SpaceX’s customersmay not mind if the schedule slips to 2019—the 50th anniversary of the firstApollo Moon landing would add yet more pizzazz to what is sure to be a veryhigh-profile venture.
Who the purchasers of this pizzazz might be is not yet known, thoughone, at least, must be very rich. One possibility is Steve Jurvetson , aventure capitalist on SpaceX’s board. Another is the film-maker James Cameron, who directed 「Avatar」, the most profitable film ever made. Mr. Cameron hasalready plumbed the Mariana Trench in a submersible; in 2011 he showed interestin a privately funded Russian mission to the Moon. Having such a film- maker onboard would certainly ensure that the trip was spectacularly documented. Withthe right lenses, he might even pick out the tiny XPRIZE rovers as he flashesby.

★has had a slow time 第一個has是完成時中的助動詞,第二個had是與後面固定搭配,havea slow time

★untried adj. He was young and untried, with no reputation of his own.
★considering using consider+doing sth考慮做某事They are considering upsizing their information systems.
This is not, though, a simple story of private sector versus public. For one thing, SpaceXcan offer such a trip only thanks to NASA’sprevious largesse. The company’s Dragonspace capsule, in which the Moon touristswould fly, was developed to carry first cargoand, soon, people up to the International Space Station—services for which NASA pays generously. For another, NASA might end up deciding to pay SpaceX for its Moon jollies, just as it pays for rides to the spacestation.
★largesse n. 慷慨的贈與;慷慨贈與物(等於largess)Unfortunately, this gesture of largesse comes with a price tagmuch bigger than that $100 bowl.
★capsule n.
★cargo n.
★services forWe can supply the best service for you. It is service for the poor by the poor.

★Get 和make find 的用法一致,系動詞
★seem to they seem to get on pretty well. That seems to be a sensible idea.

★hint n.

★plans a mission計劃
★perhaps adv. Straightenhim out; he perhaps misunderstood what I said. Perhaps I may be permitted a few suggestions.

★expect vt.
Hewasn't expecting our hospitality.

★capitalist n.
