The Biorefinery Master Programme is a course that has been jointly developed by
University of Lille (France)
University of Bari (Italy)
University of Technology of Troyes (France)
Tadeusz Kościuszko University of Technology (Poland)
The key personnel involved in the design and the structuring of the Master programme have a long-standing collaboration in the frame of EuroBioRef.
Semester 1
Technology of Troyes, France
All students will spend their first semester at Troyes where courses on environmental risk management, environmental impact assessment eco-conception of industrial systems through industrial and territorial ecology, bioeconomy basics and environment basics will be delivered.
The courses will cover technical aspects of energy conversion and management, within a financial, economic, territorial, environmental and legal perspective frame.
Students will also realize group projects on the issues of implementing a sustainable biorefinery. The knowledge-transfer process will develop the necessary skills of the attendants for a successful career in the bioenergy sector.
Semester 2
Tadeusz Kościuszko University of Technology, Poland
The basics of biomass characterisation and production of biofuels (including lab-synthesis of biodiesel, biethanol, biogas and waste biomass pyrolysis) will be delivered during second semester of studies in Krakow.
This course will be accompanied with basic courses crucial for chemical engineers, like: calculational methods in chemical engineering; chemical reactions engineering; biochemical reactors engineering; and process control and industrial measurements. Furthermore, an advanced computer modelling methods will be presented to the students, showing them how to solve typical chemical engineering problems.
Semester 3
University of Lille, France; University of Bari, Italy
After this first year, the students can choose between two specialization streams:
chemical and thermochemical routes for a lignocellulosic-based biorefinery,
enzymatic/microbial/chemical processes for an oil-based biorefinery.
For stream (a), students will attend the third semester in Lille, with relevant courses for lignocellulosic biomass conversion and reaction and process engineering related to the biorefinery processes.
For stream (b), students will attend one semester with relevant courses in Bari, where both biotechnology and chemical catalysis will be taught.
Semester 4
Master thesis
The fourth and last semester covers the diploma thesis of the students. The location where the student will perform his/her thesis is a free choice and can be performed in any of the participating institutions. The students will also be strongly encouraged to take advantage of the associated academic and industrial organizations and external associated universities. The four partner Universities agree that specific issues, such as the use of a particular technology-equipment-technique, may require short mobility within the network.
If you are interested in applying for the Erasmus+ Master Programme in Bioref, please check if you meet the requirements below:
Awarded Bachelor of Science degree (min. 180 ECTS) in chemist, biochemist, chemical engineering and biology or related relevant fields.
OR students in their last Bachelor year
i. IELTS 6.5 no section below 5.5ii. TOEFL 575 paper-based, 4,5 written, 190 computer-based, 90 internet-based (20 written)iii. or Cambridge or TOEIC, etc…- Or a University letter attesting English is the medium of instruction of your higher education.Application received before the end of the deadline.
Application form filled out in English.
Application containing all requested elements and documents.
If you meet all requirements and want to apply to Bioref, the following list of documents will have to be attached to the application in a PDF format:
Copy of your diploma(s) / degree(s) certificate(s) (add an English translation if applicable) or enrolled certificate from your university (for last year students)
Copy of transcript of records for your whole degree and a grading scale (add an English translation if applicable)
If your ranking doesn’t appear on the transcript of records, a letter of your university attesting your ranking in the class
Copy of official language certificate attesting language skills in English
Curriculum Vitae in a European format
Passport (or valid ID document)
Proof of current and exact place of residence (see requirements below)
Two recommendation letters (no specific format)
Certificate of residence
The purpose of the residence document is to prove your current place of residence so your current postal address. Which means your name and your own address need to appear on the document as well as the date of issuance of the document.
That is why we need a document as described below:
Residence certificate issued in accordance with the candidate’s municipality normal registration rules OR Certificate from the candidate’s current place of work, study or training issued by the employer or institution in question
Must have been issued by an official institution within 12 months before the application deadline
Be careful we won’t accept « work certificate » from the company you are working in. We want to have your current personal postal address and not your working address. We won’t accept your birth certificate either or your passport.
In order to confirm your registration to Bioref you may need to provide legalized documents such as your diploma, transcript of records or birth certificate. Those documents are not required at application stage so you don’t need to initiate expenditures in case of a non-selection of your application.
