故事設定在未來世界，在一個龐大的高科技成人主題樂園中，有著擬真人的機器「接待員」能讓遊客享盡情慾、暴力等欲望的放縱，主要敘述被稱為「西部世界」的未來主題公園。它提供給遊客殺戮與性慾的滿足。
但是在這世界下，各種暗流湧動。部分機器人出現自我覺醒，發現了自己只是作為故事角色的存在，並且想擺脫樂園對其的控制；樂園的管理層害怕樂園的創造者控制著樂園的一切而試圖奪其控制權，而樂園創造者則不會善罷甘休並且探尋其夥伴創造者曾經留下的謎團；而買下樂園的一名高管試圖重新發現當年的旅程留下的謎團。
第一季第一集劇情簡介:
回到小鎮的Teddy與Dolores約會完後送她回家，卻發現她的父母被殺。黑衣人出現殺死Teddy並強暴Dolores，並透露自己是遊客，小鎮上的居民都是「西部世界」遊樂場裡供遊客虐殺的仿生機器人。
故事線重啟，但由於遊客活動的幹擾，機器人的活動跟前一版的故事大相逕庭。
Ford博士升級了園區裡部分機器人，導致一個治安官出了故障。Theresa提出要把升級過的機器人都回收修理，Sizemore卻認為大規模回收會對園區和遊客均引起混亂，但他旨在藉此打擊Ford而讓Theresa上位，Theresa表示拒絕。
一個叫Walter的機器人再次出現故障，Theresa勒令Bernard讓Ford博士撤銷升級，但Ford拒絕。Sizemore打算讓悍匪機器人Hector血洗小鎮，在取悅遊客的同時回收大部分機器人。
黑衣人不滿於一般遊客的娛樂需要，再次虐殺一個機器人並割下他的頭皮。
Dolores的父親發現一張現代人的照片而陷入恍惚繼而抽搐，Dolores到鎮上求醫卻遇上Hector血洗小鎮，Teddy中彈身亡，但Hector被遊客打死。
在場的機器人都被回收，Dolores的父親的精神錯亂是因為幾重身份識別疊加而引起錯誤。自我意識覺醒的Dolores騙過人類的盤問，自我意識覺醒，拍死了頸上的蒼蠅。
