You must have seen the topic 「Going to The Peak on The first LUNAR day of 2021」.
Yeh, the place I went today was popularly known as The Peak. Dunno why they named such a lame name as there were tons of peaks everywhere. And this peak isn’t exactly the highest mountain in Hong Kong. It is just the highest mountain in Hong Kong Island. Or that represented that the people before didn’t look at New Territories or Kowloon.
The Peak is actually Victoria Peak. By the way you must have seen a lot of famous places with 「Victoria」 on it, like Victoria Harbour.
We went there with my friend Alvin, Alvin’s sister Catherine, Alvin’s mum, Alvin’s dad, my mum, my dad and I (It seems boring reading out these).
The whole point of this trip is that Catherine didn’t ride the tram going up The peak. The tram(山頂纜車) there is very famous because of its unique appearance.
I had rode the tram for like 7-8 times already, because everytime my relatives went there to travel I went with them to The Peak.
We paid our fares and hopped on the tram. It was a tram with two cars, and the rail was very steep.
The tram started to go, and we started to feel a bit strange. The slope was 27 degrees, and when we looked out of the window, the tall buildings (Most of them were like 400 metres tall) looked like the buildings were tilted. The scenery was very beautiful.
Suddenly, the tram stopped. Everyone thought there was some problem, and they started to panic. But I knew that the tram needed to stop. According to my theory, the tram needed to rest for a while although it was not a human.
7 minutes later, we arrived at the peak. It was very fast, and when we dropped off, I felt a bit strange.
We arrived straight at 10000 souvenir shops. They were selling things like key chains and a lot of panda dolls. I counted for a while, finding that there were at least 5324 pandas (No I don’t mean the real one because there were only 1700 pandas in the world.) in there. I don’t think people would spend so much money on these pandas.
We then went to 「Sky Terrace 428」. It has a 「428」 at the back of the name because that place was 428 metres high. But what if they measured again and it is 427 metres high, they need to change the name into 「Sky Terrace 427」.
Anyway, it was just a viewing terrace. There were lots of telescopes, but it turns out that you needed to pay 5 dollars to use it.
And then we started to take pictures. You could see that we seven seems like closing our eyes on purpose, but actually the sun was so bright that I already tried my best to do that.
There were not really many things to do in there, so we went down. And, right after the moment we went down, we started to hike down this hill.
Alvin’s dad knew the road very well, so he led us to a way. But actually me and my dad,my mum and my brother went there before and did not walk this way.
But my mum said,「You don’t need to worry!」
The trail has so many people going up, and everyone was squishing each other. This is not really a way to show the others how to 「maintain social distance」.
There were some houses around us, and I don’t know how they will go home or go outside. I saw one car besides us, but I don’t really think that they could just ride the car bumping everyone going here.
I walked very fast and I think I squished 100 people along the way. When I stopped, I couldn’t see them anymore. I waited for almost an hour before they caught up.
We then saw a tree. That was not a very simple tree, it was a tree that was glowing. It was glowing orange light, and when we looked close at it it was called 「Indian Oak」. You could produce rubber from this, and so many people were taking photos.
An hour later, we arrived at Hong Kong University. As you know, Hong Kong University is one of the best universities in Hong Kong, and Alvin’s dad is one of the teachers in Hong Kong University.
He led us to a restaurant, and I ate the first time outside in a year.
We then rode the tram (Hong Kong Tramways). It was a very famous tram in Hong Kong, and in Chinese it was popularly known as 「Ding Ding Car」(叮叮車) because everytime the tram starts or there is something blocking the way it would say 「Ding Ding」.
It was built in 1904 because that time the population grew very fast in Hong Kong Island. The rail was built on the road for cars.
We rode it to Central, and the whole experience was fun. Catherine liked it obviously.
We went to Central because Catherine wanted to ride the ferris wheel(摩天輪) in Central. We went there and there was a nasty surprise:The ferris wheel was closed due to the pandemic.
But at least we saw one farari and one lamborghini. Everyone was taking pictures of it, and I don’t understand what’s the use of driving a lamborghini on the road of Hong Kong. The owner is just flexing on the others.
So we rode the ferry (天星小輪)to Tsim Sha Tsui. The ferry was a special one because it has a long history and also it charges a little money only. And also we rode on it on purpose because Catherine never rode one.
We went back home, and today was a very fun day. We went to The Peak, we rode two kinds of trams, and we rode some special ferries. Today is the first lunar day of 2021, and we hiked. I hope that the pandemic would pass away faster because economic is now going worse, and most important of all, Catherine needs to ride the ferris wheel.
