▶ celebrate 及物動詞，直接說celebrate sth。celebrated則有「著名的」之意，be celebrated for sth，即為「因...而出名」。This is a time of renewal (更新、重新開始) — a chance to celebrate, remeber the joys and sorrows (悲傷) of the path that brought us here, and imagine the possibilities of all that lies ahead of us. Like paper lanterns, we let our hope light the way forward. For so many Americans, we've never needed a new beginning more.
這是一個辭舊迎新的時刻，讓人們有機會去慶祝，去銘記一路走來的快樂與悲傷，並暢想未來的無限可能刻。就像燈籠一樣，我們讓希望點亮前行之路。對於眾多的美國民眾來說，我們從未像現在這樣，需要一個新的開始。
▶ ahead & forward 兩個詞都有「前方、前面」的意思，但是有以下差別：
① 詞義：ahead著重強調（時間、空間）「在」前面；forward強調「朝」前面。所以上文中，「that lies ahead of us」「the way forward（前行之路）」也可以說「the way ahead（前方的路）」，但是就少了「向前行」的那一層含義。
② 詞性：ahead只能作副詞，forward（英式英語裡也作forwards）可以作副詞，還可以作形容詞、動詞、名詞。
Amid the pain of this pandemic, the loss of life and livelihoods, we've seen another tragedy: racism, harassment(騷擾), hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. It's simply wrong — it's a stain on our national character. Every person, no matter their race, background, religion, or language they speak, deserves to be treated with dignity (尊嚴) and with respect.
這次的疫情給我們帶來了許多傷痛，奪走了許多人的生命，也讓我們的生活脫離了正常的軌跡。然而，比疫情更讓人痛心的是，在其中我們看到了另一種悲劇：針對亞太裔的種族主義、騷擾和仇恨犯罪。某些人對亞太裔群體的歧視與偏見。這是完全錯誤的，這是我們國民性的汙點。每一個人，無論其種族、背景、宗教信仰和語言，都應該受到尊重和平等的對待。
▶ amid amid（amidst）和among是近義詞，都有「在...之中」的意思，但是amid也可以表示「在...過程中」，類似during的用法。在Collins Dictionary裡的解釋是：
If something happens amid noises or events of some kind, it happens while the other things are happening.
在這裡，amid=during。
▶ stain 即在這裡是名詞，指名聲、人格上的汙點，固定搭配為stain on sth，也可作及物動詞。
▶ no matter 作「無論、不管」之意時，通常後接由what/how/when/who/where引導的讓步狀語從句。但是在祝福詞裡，no matter後面直接接了名詞，這是語法錯誤嗎？在英語表達裡，確實有這樣的用法。2020年高考全國卷（I）完形填空就有這樣一句話：
I wonder if parents should always tell the truth no matter the consequences. （我在想，是不是不管後果如何，家長們都應該講真話）。
不過這樣的表達並不太常見，所以大家自己在考試寫作時還是儘量避免喲。
That's why I signed an executive order (總統行政令) condemning racism and xenophobia against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and directing the federal government to advance racial equity in all that we do. Our diversity has always been our strength, and I promise you: our administration will be guided by that truth.正是因為如此，我籤署了一項總統行政令，嚴厲譴責針對亞太裔群體的種族歧視與仇外情緒，並且督促聯邦政府加強種族平等政策的制定和執行。文化和種族的多元性一直是美國的一大優勢。在此我向你們保證：本屆政府將會恪守此道，宣揚平等。▶ condemn 除了「譴責、指責」之意外，還有「判處刑罰」的意思，例如，condemn him to death。
▶ xenophobia 仇外心理。phobia是「恐懼症」的意思，也可以作為名詞後綴，意為「對...的恐懼症」，例如trypophobia（密集恐懼症）、acrophobia（恐高症）。xeno來自希臘語xenos，意為「陌生的、外來的」。▶ equity 和equality都有「平等」的意思，其實在用法上並沒什麼差別。但是在討論社會機制中的「平等」時，這兩個詞會有非常細微的差別：* Equality refers to scenarios in which all segments of society have the same levels of opportunity and support.* Equity extends the concept of equality to include providing varying levels of support based on individual need or ability.也就是說，equality是向所有群體提供平等的資源與機會，而equity則是提供每個人所需要的資源，從而達到結果上的平等。網絡上常常用下面這些圖來解釋equality和equity ↓↓↓The Year of the Ox reminds us of our resilience (韌性、彈力) and perseverance (毅力、堅持). We've seen it again and again from the Asian American and Pacific Islander community: the courage of all frontline workers who have risked their health to keep us safe, the kindness of those who have given their time and talents to help their neighbors in need. There's hard work ahead, but we have always been stronger that the challenges we face. And together, we will make this year brighter and more beautiful with every passing day.
牛年象徵著我們的堅韌與毅力。而我們在美國的亞太裔群體中不斷地看到了這一品質。在那些為了他人的安全而不顧自己健康的抗疫一線人員身上，我們看到了勇氣；在那些傾儘自己的精力與智慧，向身邊的朋友和鄰居伸出援手的人們的身上，我們感受到了善意。儘管未來仍然充滿挑戰，但我們將一如既往地披荊斬棘，砥礪前行。相信在我們共同的努力下，新的一年會更加光明與美好。
▶ ox ox、bull、cow、cattle都有牛的意思，為什麼用ox來表達「牛年」？首先，我們看下其他幾個詞的意思：
bull — 未閹割的公牛
cow — 用於產奶或者產肉的成年母牛
cattle — 是牛的複數統稱，指家養的牛
而ox指閹割過的公牛，也可以泛指「牛」，所以牛年還是選擇了用「ox」。
We're going to get through this together. And in this season of renewal, may we all find strength and joy in one another, in our families, and in our communities. And from our family to yours, we wish you happiness, health, and prosperity. Happy Lunar New Year.

▶ one another 「互相」的意思，同「each other」
