1. Puerto Rico governor: U.S. backtracking on island's independence
The United States is backtracking from its historic position acknowledging Puerto Rico's right to self-governance, Puerto Rico's governor says in a pending U.S. Supreme Court case over so-called double jeopardy laws.
In a letter to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon released on Sunday, Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla said Washington is reversing a decades-old understanding that Puerto Rico, while a U.S. commonwealth, governs through its own constitution. (Reuters)

《元照英美法詞典》對double jeopardy的釋義：雙重危險，雙重追訴。指對實質上同一的罪行給予兩次起訴、審判、定罪或科刑。禁止對當事人的同一罪行進行雙重追訴是英美法上一項重要的訴訟原則。美國憲法第五條修正案具體規定了這一原則，美國最高法院則通過判例確認該原則對在第一次起訴後被法院定罪或宣告無罪的被告人均適用，並通過憲法第十四條修正案，即「正當程序條款」，而將該原則擴大適用於各州。
2. Driverless cars could provide golden future for litigators
The prospect of driverless and semi-driverless cars travelling on the streets within a few years is making lawyers ponder the interesting possibilities for litigation work when accidents occur.
Kevin Dean, who is taking claims against General Motors and Takata, said: 'You’re going to get a whole host of new defendants. Computer programmers, computer companies, designers of algorithms, Google, mapping companies, even states. It’s going to be very fertile ground for lawyers.' (Global Legal Post)

小編解碼：科技越來越發達，無人駕駛技術也日趨成熟，生活將更加美好……等等，怎麼那邊一群西裝革履的律師壞笑地蹲守在那？原來在等待著饕鬄一場訴訟盛宴！對嗅覺敏銳的律師來說，無人駕駛就意味著交通事故案件中越來越多的人將可能成為被告，包括電腦程式員、計算機公司、算法設計師、Google、地圖公司甚至各州。這樣一來以後口袋更深了（Deep pocket），遠遠不止現在的司機、機動車所有人和保險公司。
小編不禁想說，對於那些創業的人來說，這還能讓人愉快地開腦洞了麼？其實小編更想說的是，編程、技術的理工男們，總有一天單純的你們會落入我們文科男的圈套的，誰讓你們上學時總是搶女朋友的說……
3. Massachusetts law firm is accused of suing debtors without 'meaningful attorney involvement'
Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is seeking civil penalties against a debt-collection law firm accused of pursuing cases based on inaccurate or incomplete information.
Healey filed a civil complaint last week against the firm, Lustig, Glaser & Wilson, according to a press release and the Boston Globe. The press release accuses the firm of suing consumers 「without any meaningful attorney involvement in the lawsuits.」
The law firm relied on computerized spreadsheets provided by national debt buyers, the press release says. That allowed the firm to process up to thousands of consumer accounts for collection in a day’s time. (ABA Journal)

小編解碼：這家律所Lustig, Glaser & Wilson也是個弄潮兒啊，單靠各地債權買家們提供的電腦化數據表，就開始四處狂發通知催債，一天的時間就能向成千上萬的消費者帳戶催討，理念還是很先進的啊。不過步伐是不是快了點，這下反被麻薩諸塞州檢察長給告了，說是該家律所僅憑不正確或不完整的信息來討債，在追討訴訟中不通過代理律師等等。據說這家律所不問債務情況，對於過了訴訟時效的、知道其要求不準確甚至被法院因缺乏證據判駁的，全部依舊窮追不捨，甚至威脅扣押社保和傷殘津貼，真是鐵了心只認到手的錢啊。
小編忽然覺得是個門道啊，回頭去央視搜集下逃往美國的貪官名錄，然後給這家律所發個催債指令，利益分成，以他家無所不用其極的手段，必然……哈哈，想想都美醉了。
