Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. I’m Ali .
Today I’m going to speak to you about how to care for people.
That’s a crazy question. How do you care for somebody.
As a teacher in china, the biggest question I usually get is these Chinese students say: "Ali, I don’t know how to express my feeling, I don’t know how to say."
This is a big question I often get,"How do I care for somebody?"
You see , the center of the care is compassion. This is the key word for you to learn today. It’s compassion.
Compassion is I want to put myself in your shoes. it’s like empathy.
I can tell you a story. Once in England, I was serving as a waiter in my father’s restaurant. And there was an old lady that came. She was very very cold, I got her hand and I said, "madam, you seem very cold. Can I get you a cup of tea to warm you up?" I didn’t care about giving her food or selling her anything.
Compassion is when you see somebody is cold, when you see somebody is in pain, you reach that person before they reach you. That is compassion.
And the lady became my best friend.
So I want to know how do you express compassion.
And I’m sure you are very compassionate, as you are doctors, and you are nurses. Compassion is the heart and is the blood of this profession.
Thank you very much for listening. Have a very compassionate and pleasant day!
