Under the influence of Chinese culture, other countries, especially some countries in East Asia and Southeast Asia, also celebrate this festival in different ways.
韓國:韓國的中秋節也被稱為「秋夕節」,是人們慶祝豐收的一個節日,就像西方的感恩節。秋夕節通常會有3天的假期;節日期間,成千上萬的人會回鄉祭祖、賞月、吃松糕。這種松糕是圓形的,所以和月餅一樣,也有著團團圓圓的意思。
South Korea:The Mid-Autumn Festival in South Korea is also called 「Chuseok」, which is a festival for people to celebrate harvest, just like the Thanksgiving Day in the Western countries. There will be a three-day holiday in Chuseok,during the festival, thousands of people will return to their hometowns to worship their ancestors, enjoy the full moon, and eat a kind of round muffin, which also symbolizes the family reunion, like moon cakes.
泰國:泰國人將中秋節取名為「祈月節」。他們在這一天有著拜八仙的傳統,祈求八仙可以給人間帶來福氣,來年會更加的順順利利,象徵著一種美好的祝願。
Thailand:Thai named the Mid-Autumn festival as 「Prayer Festival」. They have the tradition of worshiping the Eight Immortals on that day, praying that the eight Immortals can bring them good fortune, and that the coming year will be more smooth and prosperous, symbolizing a kind of good wish.
馬來西亞:馬來西亞是華人居住最多的東協國家之一,在那兒月餅經濟非常火爆。為營造節日氣氛,首都吉隆坡的一些華人社團會舉行盛大的月餅盛會,成千上萬的人圍坐一起吃著定製的特大號月餅.當晚還有燈籠遊行晚會,在各大街道可以看到成群的燈籠遊行隊,給中秋節點綴濃鬱的節日氛圍。
Malaysia:Malaysia is one of ASEAN countries with the largest Chinese population, and the moon-cake economy is very popular there. For creating the festive atmosphere, some Chinese communities in the capital Kuala Lumpur hold a grand moon-cake festival, in which thousands of people gather around to eat super-big-size moon cakes. And there is also a lantern parade at night, and groups of lantern parades can be seen in the streets, interspersing the Mid-Autumn Festival a strong atmosphere.
越南:在越南,中秋節也是兒童節,節日前夕的父母因為農忙無暇顧及孩子,中秋節就是農忙後補償孩子們所設立的節日。中秋節,家長們會帶著孩子上街去參加一些親子活動,送孩子燈籠等各式各樣的禮物。
Vietnam:In Vietnam, Mid-Autumn Festival is also Children’s Day. Parents are too busy to pay attention to their children in the eve of the festival , thus Mid-Autumn Festival is the day setting up to compensate children after the busy farming. On the Mid-Autumn Festival, parents will take their children out to the streets to take part in some parent-child activities and give their children lanterns and other various gifts.
日本:在日本有邊賞月邊舉行宴會的風俗習慣,被稱為「觀月宴」。與中國人在中秋節的時候吃月餅不同,日本人在賞月的時候吃江米糰子。由於這個時期正值作物收穫,日本人要舉行各種慶祝活動表達對大自然的感謝。
Japan:In Japan, there is the custom of holding banquets while appreciating the moon, which is called 「Moon-gazing Festival」. Unlike the Chinese who eat moon cakes at the Mid-Autumn Festival, Japanese eat rice dumplings when appreciating the moon. Since this is the time of harvest, Japanese celebrate the day to show their gratitude to nature.
