【經典】威風凜凜進行曲(Pomp & Circumstance) 作曲:愛德華.艾爾加(Edward Elgar)

   《威風堂堂進行曲》（Pomp and Circumstance Marches, Op. 39）是風靡全球的著名管弦樂，也可譯為《威風凜凜進行曲》。

      愛德華·埃爾加(Edward Elgar),1857－1934，愛德華·埃爾加《威風堂堂進行曲》（第一首） 《威風堂堂》進行曲總共包括埃爾加在1901至1903年間陸續完成的五首短小的進行曲，其中的第一首被公認為最成功，因而也最著名。 

      本曲以一個短小的引子作為開始。接著，華麗而威風凜凜的主部主題強有力地呈現出來；與主部主題形成巧妙對照的是樂曲中段那具有民謠之美的旋律。埃爾加這部作品的成功，在很大程度上要歸功於這個中段。這一旋律不僅被愛德華七世用作《加冕頌歌》，英國作家豪斯曼還為此寫了抒情詩《希望和光榮的國土》。可以說，這段旋律在英國的地位，幾乎與國歌一樣神聖。此外，甚至在美國許多院校的畢業典禮上，學生們也是在這支旋律的音樂聲中領取文憑，就連幾次英國皇室婚禮也演奏了這首《威風堂堂進行曲》，其影響之深遠可見一斑。隨後，主部主題與中段主題相繼再現，只是中段主題在整個樂隊奏出的節奏型強調下，音響增強了，也更寬廣了。最後又回到主部主題，並加快速度，乾脆利索地結束全曲。

      艾爾加曾經在1901至1903年間寫過五首《威風堂堂進行曲》(Pomp and Circumstance Marches, Op. 39)。當1901年新完成的第一首在倫敦由作曲家親自指揮首演時，全場聽眾為之瘋狂，紛紛起立和大聲喝彩，使音樂會無法繼續，一直到艾爾加連續把這首曲子奏了三次，場面才平靜下來。 

      英國國王愛德華七世提議作曲家把它加上歌詞，於是成了英國人人會唱的《希望與榮耀的土地》(Land of Hope and Glory)。本來已經相當有名的艾爾加此時更加聲名大震，不但被英王封他為爵士，美國大學還送給他名譽學位,英國節日大廳一連三日舉行艾爾加作品音樂會,令他名利雙收。 

   「威風凜凜」取自莎士比亞的悲劇《奧賽羅》第三幕第三場奧賽羅的臺詞：「永別了.屬於戰爭的一切轟轟烈烈、威風凜凜的大場面！

　　D大調第一號威風凜凜進行曲(Pomp and Circumstance Marches，No 1 in D Major) ，管弦樂曲，又名「威風堂堂進行曲」，是具有英國國歌地位的經典名曲。由英國作曲家艾爾加(Edward William Elgar，1857-1934)1901年創作，題獻給指揮家羅迪沃爾德和利物浦管弦樂協會樂隊，為所作五首同名進行曲的第一首。同年10月19日在利物浦首次演出，羅迪沃爾德指揮。數日後在倫敦演出時收到熱烈歡迎，曾當場連續演奏三遍。
