The Moon over the West River

明月別枝驚鵲，清風半夜鳴蟬。
稻花香裡說豐年，聽取蛙聲一片。
Startled by magpies leaving the branch in moonlight,
I hear cicades shrill in the breeze at midnight.
The ricefields' sweet smell promises a bumper year;
Listen, how frogs ' croaks please the ear!
七八個星天外，兩三點雨山前。
舊時茅店社林邊。路轉溪橋忽見。
Beyond the clouds seven or eight stars twinkle;
Before the hills two or three raindrops sprinkle.
There is an inn beside the village temple. Look!
The winding path leads to the hut beside the brook.
