每天下班回到家，普特君要做的第一件事就是迅速換上睡衣，那一刻真的「解放自我」。今天我們就來學習一些跟「衣服」相關的英語表達。
「睡衣」的英文怎麼說？
說到睡衣的英文，可能有同學的第一反應會是「sleep clothes」，「sleep」是「睡覺」，「clothes」是「衣服」，看上去好像沒有什麼錯誤，但這個說法其實不地道，英語中也沒有這樣的表達。
在英文中，晚上睡覺時穿著的衣服一般總稱為「sleepwear」或「nightwear」.
除了總稱，睡衣也有很多款式，比如「睡袍」或者「（分體）睡衣」，對應的表達又是什麼？
不知道大家有沒有看過《羅馬假日》，其中有個片段是女主人公安妮公主（奧黛麗赫本飾演）對管家說自己不喜歡穿睡袍睡覺，喜歡穿睡衣：
電影臺詞：
I hate this nightgown.
I hate all my nightgowns, and I hate all my underwear, too.
Why can't I sleep in pajamas?
在這段臺詞中，提到了「nightgown」[natɡan] 和「pajamas」 [pdɑmz]，這兩個詞都可以表示「睡衣」，但是也有不同的地方：
nightgown：睡袍，女式睡裙（連體）
lingerie consisting of a loose dress designed to be worn in bed by women
pajamas[p'dmz]（有些國家也稱pyjamas）：睡衣（分體）
（usually plural) loose-fitting nightclothes worn for sleeping or lounging; have a jacket top and trousers
pajamas是複數形式，單數是pajama， 但口語中一般以複數形式pajamas出現，也可以縮寫為「PJs」， 一套睡衣就可以說「a pair of pajamas」。
原詞paejama來自北印度語，它由波斯語中的pai和jamah兩個詞組合而成。pai在波斯語中表示"腿"，而jamah表示"衣服"。pajamas顧名思義就是腿部的服裝--褲子。這本是一種中東和印度人外出穿的寬鬆褲子，之後慢慢演變為我們現在常說的睡衣。
所以，「睡衣」的地道表達就是：pajamas或nightgown
He bought a pair of pajamas.
他買了一套睡衣。
Without thinking, she pelted down the stairs in her nightgown.
她想都沒想，穿著睡衣就飛奔下了樓。
「秋衣秋褲」怎麼說？
最近氣溫驟降，每天早上都被凍得直哆嗦。普特君早已向年齡低頭，乖乖穿上秋衣秋褲，再也不讓媽媽操心了！
「秋衣秋褲」的英語有以下幾種表達：
thermal underwear 保暖內衣
thermal [θml]的意思是「防寒的；保暖的」，「保暖內衣」其實也就跟我們說的「秋衣秋褲」差不多。
All members of the team dress in thermal underwear.
所以隊員都穿上了保暖內衣。
Long Johns
Long Johns可指一身，也可單指秋褲。單買一般說：long john top（秋衣），long john pants（秋褲）或者thermal top（秋衣），thermal pants（秋褲）。
In the late 1800s, the Long John was a wardrobe staple for the Victorian
era woman.
在19世紀末期，秋褲是維多利亞時期女人衣櫃裡的必需。

「衣服」的英文不是「cloth」
大家都知道衣服的英文是「clothes」，可是會有很多同學以為是「cloth」的複數形式，其實是不正確的。「clothes」是複數名詞，沒有單數形式，統指身上穿的衣服。而「cloth」表示的是「織物；布料；抹布」，其複數形式cloths.
Nina cleaned the furniture with cloths made from an old T-shirt.
尼娜用一件舊T恤做的抹布清潔家具。
「clothes」除了是「衣服的總稱」之外，也是動詞「clothe（給...穿衣）」的第三人稱單數形式。
She was on her own with two kids to feed and clothe.
她獨自一個人要供兩個孩子吃穿。
