「打工」最初的含義就是「外出打工人員」， 英文為 migrant workers。

做雜活兒的人，打零工者
a man who is paid to do different types of jobs, especially in the house or garden
(尤指在房子或花園裡)做雜活兒的人，打零工者
03worker

someone who works for a company or organization but does not have a powerful position

04employee
受僱者，僱員，員工

05corporate slave
這個短語就是我們常說的：社畜

與「office worker」相似的表達還有「desk jockey」也可以表示上班族、辦公室職員

07commuter
原詞「commute」有「通勤」的意思，所以加上後綴「-er」就是「通勤者」的意思

「打工」一詞是個時代產物，於上世紀80年代改革開放初期從香港傳入內地，指除老闆以外的勞動者，尤其指南下謀生的勞動者，外出務工人員。
而在今天，工地泥瓦匠、寫字樓白領、創業者，都可以自嘲「打工人」，頗有些苦中作樂，自我消遣的意思。
