go haywire是地道的美國用語，它的意思是：瘋狂的，混亂的，英文釋義為：to become irrational or crazy；to start malfunctioning or having problems.
go haywire和美國人會用鐵絲把稻草綁在一起（hay+wire）有關。據說因為鐵絲可能會斷掉，反彈回來就有可能傷到人，所以這個用語後來用在暗示不可靠的、可能有危險的狀況。另一個說法則是來自伐木工人，工人隨隨便便用鐵絲來修補東西或把東西綁在一起。
