今天「高齋CATTI」上給大家發一段漢譯英批改，原文取自2020年政府工作報告。

原文：這次新冠肺炎疫情，是新中國成立以來遭遇的傳播速度最快、感染範圍最廣、防控難度最大的公共衛生事件。經過全國上下和廣大人民群眾艱苦卓絕努力並付出犧牲，疫情防控取得重大戰略成果。當前，疫情尚未結束，發展任務異常艱巨。要努力把疫情造成的損失降到最低，努力完成今年經濟社會發展目標任務。

學生譯文：①The novel coronavirus pneumonia is a ②public health event that ③has the fastest speed of transmission, caused the most extensive infection and is the most difficult to contain in the country since the founding of ④the New China. ⑤Epidemic prevention and control have ⑥ made significant strategy achievement through the hard work and ⑦making sacrifice of the whole country and ⑧the broad masses. At present, the epidemic ⑨is not over and the tasks of promoting development is arduous. 翻譯批改：

①「新冠肺炎疫情」不能翻譯為The novel coronavirus pneumonia，這個指「新冠肺炎」，「新冠肺炎疫情」一般是The covid-19 epidemic或者The covid-19 outbreak。

② 「公共衛生事件」public health emergency是固定表達，不能說public health event。如CATTI衝刺班19年6月CATTI三筆英譯漢真題中有這句：

And of course, we continue to face the ever-present threat of outbreaks and other health emergencies.

③ 「傳播速度最快」不能直譯為has the fastest speed of transmission，病毒傳播用spread，最簡潔的是翻譯為形容詞詞組the fastest spreading，如果翻譯為定語從句，可以是that has spread fastest。

④ 「新中國」在現在的報告中用的都是the People’s Republic of China，以前文章中會用New China，但是現在不用了。

⑤ made major strategic achievements的主語是人，不是epidemic prevention and control；在報告中，可以用we作主語，翻譯為we have made major strategic achievements in epidemic prevention and control.

⑥「取得重大戰略成果」可以是made major strategic achievements in，注意是strategic achievements。Achievements是可數名詞，這裡是複數，強調各種成果。

⑦ 「付出犧牲」不能直譯為making sacrifice，through/with之後加名詞或者動名詞，但是前面是the hard work名詞結構，為了結構統一，「付出犧牲」直接翻譯為名詞sacrifice就可以；

因為work之前有一個形容詞hard，所以sacrifice前面可以加個enormous。當然，不加也可以的。

⑧ 「全國上下和廣大人民群眾」不能翻譯為the whole country and the broad masses，含義重複了，全國上下已經包含了「廣大人民群眾」，直接是the whole country或者our entire nation。

也可以說our people。

⑨「尚未結束」說is not over，口語化了，報告中還是不這樣說吧。

⑩ minimize the loss of the epidemic不對，the loss of sth表示損失、失去什麼，如the loss of competitiveness失去競爭力。

「把疫情造成的損失降到最低」應該是minimize the losses caused by the virus或者minimize the losses resulting from the virus，注意是losses。

With the arduous efforts and enormous sacrifice of our people, we have achieved significant strategic results in the fight against covid-19. Currently, the epidemic has not ended, and at the same time, we face formidable tasks of boosting development. We should intensify our efforts to minimize the losses caused by the outbreak and reach the goals and tasks of economic and social development this year.

官方譯文：The covid-19 epidemic is the fastest spreading, most extensive, and most challenging public health emergency China has encountered since the founding of the People’s Republic. Through the hard work and sacrifice of our entire nation, we have made major strategic achievements in our response to covid-19. At present, the epidemic has not yet come to an end, while the tasks we face in promoting development are immense. We must redouble our efforts to minimize the losses resulting from the virus and fulfill the targets and tasks for economic and social development this year.
