在中國文化多元發展的基礎上,怎樣去思考現在的藝術現象,已經困擾了我們許多人。現在當代藝術還處在剛起步的時候,我們要看到社會仍處於農耕文化剛剛結束的階段。我們心底裡是以農耕文化的眼光在觀察周邊所有的東西。一件作品代表著那個時代,代表著那位作者,反映著那個社會的面貌。我們在多元文化中怎樣進行文化評判,怎樣進行藝術評論都是值得我們思考的。
Based on the diversified development of Chinese culture, how to reflect on the current art phenomenon has bothered many of us for so long. When the contemporary art just starts, our society just experienced the end of farming culture, so that people at that time still looked things around with the sight of farming culture. In other words, a piece of work not only represents that era and that author, but also reflects the outlook of that society, which deserves us to consider how to conduct culture criticism in diversified culture and how to criticize art.
什麼才是一篇好的藝術評論?第一,可以引起觀眾的共鳴。第二,對作品的價值判斷要精準。第三,要有精湛的寫作技巧。一篇好的文章應該自始至終承載著作者的感情,這建立在作者熟悉藝術界的現狀以及對藝術史有充分了解的基礎之上。
How to judge an article of art criticism is good or not? First, it can raise the resonance of the readers. Second, the value judgment of the works shall be accurate. Third, the writer shall be with exquisite writing skill. Generally, a good article shall bear the writer’s feelings all the time, which is based on the writer’s familiarity with the current situation of the art circle and a full understanding of the art history.
藝術評論家是藝術家和社會的紐帶,他把藝術作品推薦給社會,同時把社會的意見反映給藝術家。一方面,要肯定藝術家的創造和探索,另一方面,藝術作品走了彎路的時候要靠藝術評論家來反思和調整。在藝術史上往往是批評家通過對社會進行反思來推動藝術向前發展,在中國當代藝術的發展歷程中,也湧現出了大批當代美術批評家,比如張三、李四、王五等。
An art critic connects artists to the society, recommending artistic works to the society and reflecting opinions of the society to the artist. On the one hand, creation and exploration of the artist shall be recognized. On the other hand, it needs art critics to reflect and adjust the art works when they deviate from the course. In the art history, it is always those critics who promote the development of art by reflecting the society. In the development history of Chinese contemporary art, a large number of art critics such as Zhang San, Li Si and Wang Wu and so on emerge.
批評者應該有逆潮流的膽識。保持批評者的尖銳,撕破批評者的權威臉龐。我認為藝術有義務也有能力抵抗權力的聚集,藝術批評也一樣。
Critics shall have the courage to reverse against the tide, maintaining the sharpness and breaking the authority of critics as well. I think that the art is obliged to and has the ability to resist the gathering of power. So does art criticism.
藝術和藝術批評之間互相是有需求的,但是這種需求建立在想像性的基礎上。換言之,一對夫妻已經是貌合神離了,但仍然還同床異夢著,大家過的都不開心,不如乾脆離婚。
There is mutual need between art and criticism, which is based on the imaginary. It’s just like a couple living a seemingly harmonious life together with alienation of mutual affection, then why not just get divorced?
從有效性來說,批評的黃金時代是從波德萊爾到超現實達達的時代。藝術成為全球性的共同體中的一份子,商業的影響力增強,一個全球性的藝術產業興起,這直接導致了藝術批評的邊緣化。因為最初批評的重要性純粹存在於它的傳播價值,正是通過傳播性,批評對藝術才有了話語權。之後,藝術市場化,越來越被市場控制,傳播已經不再依賴媒體,媒體也無法跟波德萊爾時代的紙媒比擬。
In terms of effectiveness, the golden age for criticism is the age from Baudelaire to Surreal Dada. Art becomes an element in the global community. With the commercial influence getting stronger, a global art industry emerges, directly leading the marginalization of art criticism. At the very beginning, the importance of criticism simply relies on its communication value, which makes criticism have the discursive power to art. However, art is getting much more commercial and gradually controlled by the market. As a result, communication no longer depends on the media and the media cannot be compared with paper media at Baudelaire Age.
現在由於各種電臺、網絡、電視、自媒體的發展,紙媒在整個傳播中的份額也已經下滑,所以以此為主導的批評的重要性勢必會減弱很多。現在我所能在雜誌、報紙上看到的所謂批評文章,我寧可稱之為抒情散文、說明文、展覽說明手冊,最多夾雜點術語,毫無觀點。我感覺很疑惑,沒有觀點,這和批評有什麼關係?
Because of the development of all kinds of broadcasting stations, network, TV and we-media, the share of paper media has slid down in the whole communication, so the importance of criticism with paper media is bound to be weakened. Now, as to those critical articles I can read in the magazines and newspapers, I』d rather call them lyric prose, expository writing and guidance for exhibitions with a little bit terms but without viewpoints. I deeply doubt how to relate an article without viewpoints to criticism?
當一個藝術品引起國際媒體的高度關注,這時候,評論人所寫的這些文章,就變得非常重要。這主要體現在讓世界更多地了解中國藝術家,更多地了解中國藝術的現狀,這些是不能用錢衡量的。我認識一些國際媒體,他們時常會讓我推薦一些寫作很好英文也很好的中國人。他們為什麼需要推薦,為什麼需要有這樣的文章?因為在國外很難找到對中國非常熟悉且能寫出非常出色、客觀的文章的人。
When an artwork draws the high attention from international media, articles written by critics at this time become very significant, which can let the world know much more about Chinese artists and the status quo of Chinese art. It cannot be measured by money. I know some international media, who often ask me to recommend Chinese people with excellent ability of outstanding writing and good command of English. Why they need recommendation and such a kind of articles? It is hard to find a person who is familiar with China and can write splendid articles at an objective attitude.
大家都應該了解一個現狀,即在我們的藝術家當中,即使是一些很出名的藝術家,英文很好的比較少。當他自己不能用本國語言去交流時,國際方面如果想要了解他們的現狀,評論人在這個特定的藝術時代就會顯得十分重要。
Everyone shall know a situation, namely, our artists, even some outstanding ones, are not quite good at English. When they cannot communicate in their mother language, but the international media wants to know their situation, then critics play an important role in this particular art era.
