This is Everyday Grammar.
I&39;m Kaveh.
You know, Lucija, I&39;m hungry. Do we have stuff to snack on?
Kaveh, you just gave me a great idea!
我餓了,我們有東西吃嗎?
卡韋赫,給了我一個好主意!
What, do you want to get some food?
No, you reminded me that we gave a lot to talk about!
什麼?你想吃東西?
不,你提醒了我,我們有很多東西要講。
Like. . . dinner? No! ADJECTIVAL INFINITIVES!
講晚飯嗎?不!形容詞不定式!
ADJECTUVAL INFINITIVES are infinitives that act like adjectives in a sentence.
An infinitive is the base form of the verb.
形容詞不定式是指在句子中充當形容詞的不定式。
不定式是動詞的基本形式。
Sometimes the word to appears before the base form.
Infinitives like TO TALK or TO SAY often modify nouns that don&34;Do we have stuff to snack on?&39;t have a clear meaning.
沒錯,我說過。STUFF 就沒明確含義。
So, English speakers often use the ADJECTIVAL INFINITIVE to clarify their meaning.
When you said, &34; I knew you were talking about food!
所以,英語為母語人士經常用形容詞不定式來明確它們的含義。
當你說 stuff to snack on 時,我就知道你說的是食物!
Well, that&39;m pretty good at this! OK, but we should wrap up now.
