第二部分：句子解析

you have a quality你有一種氣質，非常實用的一句表達，用來評價一個人，可以褒也可以貶，這裡是Monica給Chandler解釋為什麼大家會認為他是個Gay時用的。

「a matter of hours」＝「a matter of time」，翻譯成「這不過是時間早晚的問題」，注意推廣到口語中的多個場景。

凡是看過《老友記》的地球人都知道蓋勒夫人對女兒Monica是多麼的挑剔，沒想到她也是從苦難堆裡爬出來的，難怪母親去世後，從她的表情竟然看不出多大痛楚，不僅如此，她還去向Monica訴說自己成長中的心酸。Monica當然不能直接說出自己的心事了，只能旁敲側擊的暗示，希望母親也能理解現在她的處境。
「be critical of sth」，批評某事，對某事持批評態度、愛挑剔的。除了這些意思之外，還有「關鍵的、危急的「的含義，比如：Health and safety is the most critical point for our life.生活中最重要的是健康和安全。
蓋勒夫人吹噓自己現在積極向上、生活堅定簡直是個奇蹟（it's a wonder your mother turned out to be the positive, life-affirming person that she is.），turn out to be….證明是、結果是。

some things are better left unsaid，意思是有些事情還是不要說得太直白的好，蓋勒夫人顯然完全明白了Monica的意思，卻偏偏不回答，有母如此，難受呀。

Mardi Gras 這是美國南部一些州在天主教復活節齋戒前的盛大狂歡節，正確的日子應該在「四旬 齋前的最後一天」。因為馬上要進入齋戒，所以人們抓住最後機會狂歡。在這個狂歡節上，很多人要舉行大頭遊行，用紙糊的大頭(paper mache heads)裝飾，這是狂歡節最快樂的節目之一。所以，劇中錢德勒問他的同性戀同事洛厄爾財務部狀況還好嗎，洛厄爾回答說：「就像Mardi Gras狂歡節沒有大頭遊行一樣。」也就是說，不怎麼樣。
