The monks prefer winter to summer for they have more privacy. The dogs have greater freedom, too, for they are allowed to wander outside their enclosure.
修道士們喜歡冬天，而不太喜歡夏天。因為在冬天，他們可以更多地過無人打擾的生活。狗也比較自由，被放出圍欄，四處遛達。
節選《新概念英語3 A famous monastery》
wander和wonder只是一詞之差，前者是溜達，後者是想知道。注意區分。
（1）prefer … to … 寧願…而不願，或，喜歡…而不喜歡…
The monks prefer winter to summer for they have more privacy.
prefer winter to summer表示喜歡冬天而不喜歡夏天。
prefer表示更喜歡，就近原則，prefer winter就是更喜歡冬天。這樣來記prefer … to …
也有prefer to放在一起使用的情況表示「寧願」「喜歡」
We prefer to stay where we are. 我們寧願保持著現在的樣子。
還有prefer to … rather than … 作為 prefer to的延伸。
We prefer to die rather than surrender to the enemy. 寧死不屈。
（2）allow sb. to do sth. 允許某人做某事
… they are allowed to wander outside their enclosure.
在這個句子中，表面上不太滿足allow sb. to do sth.的格式，是因為句中使用的是被動語態。they are allowed，它們被允許。
For the safety of the students, we don't allow the student to drive any vehicles while they are in US. 為學生安全起見，我們不允許學生在美國期間駕駛任何車輛。
（3）come down to引出原因的用法
前兩天分別介紹了now that, as引出原因狀語從句，今天來介紹一個come down to。
come down從字面意思上來看，表示「下來，降落」等，沒有明確的表示原因。
come down to則可翻譯為「歸根結底」，就是引出了原因。
It partly comes down to profit-driven business models that are built around low-wage work and part-time jobs that don’t provide benefits.
部分原因在於利潤驅動的商業模式。這種模式建立在低工資工作和不提供福利的兼職工作基礎上。（句子取於大學英語六級）
我們先來拆分一下長難句。
It partly comes down to profit-driven business models (that are built around low-wage work and [part-time jobs) that don’t provide benefits].
在這個句子中，有兩個that引出的定語從句。
第一個that來修飾models，第二個that修飾前面的jobs。
學會這樣的複合性的定語從句在我們在寫作中得以應用的話，還是效果非常明顯的。
所以希望大家在學習英語的時候，不要只是知道句子的意思就打住，要知道分析句型，這樣才能寫好句子。這個句子難嗎？都是簡單句，通過了that從句寫得很長而已。不要被長句子一下子打倒哦。
