繁若想起來當年在專業課上講到的一個非常有意思的詞彙：underwrite。
首先大家請花點時間看看這個詞，此前綴是under後綴是write。
under是在下面的意思，write是寫書寫的意思。
那麼大家聯想到哪個法律術語呢？
沒錯我相信很多人都會聯想到票據法中的背書轉讓行為。
所謂背書轉讓，就是在把票據交付給對手方的時候在票據後面寫上自己的名字。
這樣票據在流轉過程中就能看到前面經手的所有人，有助於防止票據造假。
比如票據失竊，由於你不前手背書的所有人，你就需要偽造背書，而偽造背書是違法的。
上面由詞彙的前綴和後綴推出的詞彙意思其實是錯誤的。Underwrite的詞義我麼查字典可以得出三種意思：1 to accept financial responsibility for an activity so that you will pay for special costs or for losses it may make 承擔經濟責任（包括支付特別費用或損失）2 to accept responsibility for an insurance policy so that you will pay money in case loss or damage happens 承擔保險責任；承保3 to agree to buy shares that are not bought by the public when new shares are offered for sale 包銷，承銷（未獲認購的新發行股份）
其中最重要的是第三種意思，也就是在證券發行過程中的承銷行為。
當然也可以表示承擔某種責任的意思。
那肯定有人要問：背書的英語怎麼說？
背書的英語單詞其實是：endorse
我們看看endorse的三種用法：
1 to say publicly that you support a person, statement or course of action （公開）贊同，支持，認可I wholeheartedly endorse his remarks. 我真誠地贊同他的話。Members of all parties endorsed a ban on land mines. 各黨派成員都贊同禁用地雷。2 to say in an advertisement that you use and like a particular product so that other people will want to buy it （在廣告中）宣傳，吹噓（某一產品）3 to write your name on the back of a cheque so that it can be paid into a bank account （在支票背面）籤名，背書4 [usually passive] (BrE) to write details of a driving offence on sb's DRIVING LICENCE （在駕駛執照上）記錄違章事項You risk having your licence endorsed. 你這樣做駕照可能被記錄違章。
其中最重要的意思也是第三個：在支票背面籤名、背書。
而且endorse在日常英語裡也可以表示公開的支持和認可的意思。比如說例句：
I endorse his remarks. 我贊同他的話。
