在英語裡有一些押韻的短語和句子，單詞間並無邏輯關係，人們把它們湊在一起純粹為了押韻、好玩。這樣的「押韻短語」，被稱為 rhyming phrase 。
例如：
as drunk as a skunk
爛醉如泥、酩酊大醉
skunk表示「臭鼬」，as drunk as a skunk 字面意思是「醉得跟只臭鼬一樣」，並不是說臭鼬喜歡喝酒，這裡就只是為了讓 drunk 和 skunk 押韻。
Jack was as drunk as a skunk last night .
傑克昨晚喝得爛醉如泥。
英文中類似這種形式的短語還有很多，如：
as busy as a bee
忙碌的
My mother is always as busy as a bee in the morning.
我媽媽早上總是很忙。
as cool as a cucumber
鎮定自若
Everyone was so surprised that such a child can be as cool as a cucumber before danger.
每個人都很驚訝，一個孩子在危險面前居然能保持冷靜。
as fit as a fiddle
非常健康，身體很好
My grandpa is as fit as a fiddle though he is already seventy.
我爺爺雖然已經七十歲了，身體卻很健康。
hustle and bustle
喧囂，忙碌
Sometimes, I want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
有時候，我想遠離城市的喧囂。
1. Good deal banana peel.
表達一種「划算的交易」。
peel n. 皮
2. What’s up, little pup?
詢問對方「怎麼了？」。
pup n. 小狗
3. Chop chop lollipop.
表達「快點、別磨蹭」。
lollipop n. 棒棒糖
4. You snooze, you lose.
表達「你打個盹，就輸了」。
snooze vi. 打盹
5. Eggs and bacon, you're mistaken.
表達「你弄錯了」。
bacon n. 培根肉
6. You get what you get and you don't get upset.
表達「得到想要的東西了，別不開心了」。
7. Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite.
表達「乖乖睡覺啦」。
bedbugs n. 床蝨
8. Take care, teddy bear.
表達「保重」。
teddy bear n. 泰迪熊
9. You wish, tuna fish.
表達「想得美」。
tuna fish n.金槍魚
還有兩句「互動式」的押韻表達，也很有趣：
—See you later, alligator.
—In a while, crocodile.
一會兒見。
一會兒見。
later和alligator押韻（alligator n. 短吻鱷）；
while和crocodile押韻（crocodile n. 鱷魚）。
—Do your thing, chicken wing.
—I'll do my best, chicken breast.
—做好你的事！
—我會盡力做到最好！
thing和wing押韻（chicken wing：雞翅）；
best和breast押韻（chicken breast：雞胸）。
