我們平時會說 break a record,除了可以用break a record表示破紀錄,上圖中的set a record也是同樣的意思,比如:
I checked the sales volumes, and we've just set a record.
She's decided to write her memoirs to set the record straight once and for all.
his record-breaking flight across the Atlantic
The New York Times 用its sales hit another titanic high on Singles Day 來表示「銷售額再創新高」。
The film shattered all previous box office records.
She beat the world record in the three events she entered on her way to two gold medals and a silver.
smash a record 意思是 to do something much faster, better etc than anyone has done before (朗文雙解)
Venom is a smash hit in China.
Alibaba on Sunday tore through last year's Singles Day sales record, racking up more than $30.8 billion in the 24-hour shopping event.
其中,tear through last year's sales record,字面意思,將去年的紀錄撕碎,也表示打破了去年的銷售記錄,rack up 表示獲勝,(在比賽中)獲勝得分。
break a record,record-breaking,hit a titanic high,set a record,tear through a record,shatter/beat/smash/hit a record
chalk up records chalk sth up的意思是獲(勝);得(分),比如:New world records in the track and field events are chalked up from time to time in the past few years.
His time for the 100 meters surpassed the previous world record by one hundredth of a second.
Online shoppers in China have shattered last year's record in sales on the country's annual buying frenzy Sunday, as the tradition marked its 10th year.
本句中用到了一個詞,frenzy,用來形容周日的瘋狂購物,frenzy的意思是a state or period of uncontrolled excitement or wild behaviour 狂亂;狂熱;極度激動;狂熱的行為(或舉動)
也可以表示a time when people do a lot of things very quickly (一段時間內的)瘋狂; 狂熱,比如:a selling frenzy拋售。
If you thought Black Friday was an extravagant enough event, wait until you hear about Singles' Day.
p.s. bonanza 也是類似的意思,(a lucky or successful situation where people can make a lot of money) 財運,獲利之道,致富之源: 從阿里巴巴的角度看,這就是一場 shopping bonanza.
an amazing cash bonanza
blitz本身的意思是閃電戰,現在可以用來表示a big effort to make people notice something or buy something意思是〔為吸引注意力或吸引人們購買某物的〕大規模行動,常用的搭配有:
a media / marketing / advertising etc blitz
例如:The campaign was launched with a nationwide publicity blitz.
The Sunday Moring Herald中提到:
The spending binge has for years eclipsed Cyber Monday in the US for online purchases made on a single day.
binge的意思是 short period when you do too much of something, such as eating or drinking 狂歡作樂; 大吃大喝,比如 一番痛飲,a drinking binge; 一周的瘋狂購物a week-long binge of shopping
Go on a shopping spree或者go on a shopping binge 表示去瘋狂購物,去「掃貨」
I have a massive urge to go on a shopping spree even though I am a bit short at the moment.
Splurge out 中的介詞out可以省略。比如:
We have to warn her before she splashes out on a another bag.
Now that they』ve won the lottery, they can splurge on as many luxury cars and goods as they want.
business insider
The unofficial Chinese holiday of guanggun jie ("bare sticks holiday") or shuang shiyi ("double 11") started in the '90s as a celebration of singledom. In 2009, Alibaba, the company that owns the two largest e-commerce websites in the world, Taobao and Tmall, repackaged the day into a discount shopping event, encouraging singles to treat themselves.
The telegraph
Singles』 Day was launched on November 11th in 2009 as a special occasion for Chinese singles to treat themselves through retail therapy. The idea for the event is credited to Daniel Zhang, who will succeed Alibaba founder Jack Ma as the company’s executive chairman.
CNBC
It was the 10th edition of the annual Singles Day event, which is also called the Double 11 shopping festival because it falls on Nov. 11. During the 24-hour period, Alibaba offered huge discounts across its e-commerce sites such as Tmall.
2)a celebration of singledom
3)repackage the day into a discount shopping event
Alibaba offered huge discounts
4)The idea for the event is credited to Daniel Zhang
be credited to... Much of Manchester United's success can be credited to their manager.
