威廉·莎士比亞（英語：William Shakespeare，1564年4月23日—1616年4月23日），英國文藝復興時期劇作家、詩人。
1564年4月23日，出生於英國沃裡克郡斯特拉福鎮。1571年—1579年，進入斯特拉福文法學校讀書。1587年，開始演員生涯，並開始嘗試寫劇本。1591年，創作的戲劇《亨利六世中篇》《亨利六世下篇》首演。1592年，創作的戲劇《查理三世》首演。1595年，創作的戲劇《羅密歐與朱麗葉》《仲夏夜之夢》首演。1596年，創作的戲劇《威尼斯商人》首演。 1601年，創作的戲劇《哈姆雷特》首演，引起文壇關注。1603年，創作的戲劇《奧賽羅》首演。1605年，創作的戲劇《李爾王》首演。1606年，創作的戲劇《麥克白》首演。1614年，離開倫敦，返回故鄉。1616年4月23日，在故鄉去世。
《莎士比亞十四行詩》成書大約於1590年至1598年之間，其詩作的結構技巧和語言技巧都很高，幾乎每首詩都有獨立的審美價值。
詩集分為兩部分，第一部分為前126首，獻給一個年輕的貴族（Fair Lord），詩人的詩熱烈地歌頌了這位朋友的美貌以及他們的友情；第二部分為第127首至最後，獻給一位「黑女士」（Dark Lady），描寫愛情。
