今天看到這個詞組時 the lion's share - 「Trump is claiming the lion's share of credit for the unprecedented speed of development of several vaccines」，很想知道它是不是 「獅子大張口」 的意思。

劍橋字典的解釋如下：

The lion's share: the largest part or most of something, 最大份額，大部分。例句：Reputable charities spend the lion's share of donations on aid and a tiny fraction on administration. 聲譽好的慈善機構將捐款的大部分都花在援助上，只有極少部分用於管理。

看完這個解釋，應該不是 「獅子大張口」 的意思。那麼，「獅子大張口」 用英文怎麼說？我查了一下，應該是 "demand an exorbitant price".

Exorbitant: adjective, Exorbitant prices, demands, etc. are much too large. （價格、要求等）過分的，過高的，離譜的。 例句：The bill for dinner was exorbitant. 晚餐的價格高得離譜。

在英文裡，它和 「獅子」 沒有關係。如果說 「獅子大張口」 和 「The lion's share" 有什麼相同之處，應該是態度上的"瘋狂"。

(CNN)Former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton are volunteering to get their Covid-19 vaccines on camera to promote public confidence in the vaccine's safety once the US Food and Drug Administration authorizes one.

 

The three most recent former presidents hope an awareness campaign to promote confidence in its safety and effectiveness would be a powerful message as American public health officials try to convince the public to take the vaccine.

As President Donald Trump ignores America'sslide into a tragic winter and obsesses over his false claims of a stolen election, three of his predecessors are volunteering to bare their arms on camera to build confidence in the vaccines that could finally end the pandemic.

The effort by former Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, which was reported by CNN's Jamie Gangel, is sure to infuriate the current commander in chief. Trump is claiming the lion's share of credit for the unprecedented speed of development of several vaccines -- despite his neglect of other aspects of the public health disasterthat has killed more than a quarter of a million Americans.
