所有的五穀都在這一天集合
在鍋裡，母親把它們放在一起
像小時候，把我們姐弟七個
放在小小的炕上，七個出窯的瓷器
臉皴著，媽媽一個個洗乾淨
像洗這些五穀雜糧，只有這一天
四季是團聚的，冷和暖
在一個鍋裡沸騰，只是少了黑豆
弟弟代替黑豆種在地裡
今年，還是不能回家

ALL THE GRAINS GATHER
—Written on the Eve of The "Laba" Festival*
Lu You
On this day all the grains gather
in a pot. Mother lines them up together
like us seven little siblings in your younger days
on a little heated brick bed, seven china dolls from one kiln,
faces chapped, mama bathed us one by one until clean,
just like she washes the grains. This is the day
they reunite across four cold and warm seasons,
in one boiling pot minus the black beans.
No black beans this harvest, we planted other crops for younger brother;
he can’t come home, like last year.
Notes
*The Laba Festival is celebrated on the 8th day of the 12th lunar month, when rice gruel or congee is eaten. The Festival is also called The End of the Year Offering of Meat Festival, a name which has its origins in hunting game that was cooked as sacrificial meat and then served at a family or communal gathering.

Duck Yard Lyricists is a group of devoted poetry lovers: Meifu Wang, Peter Micic, Michael Soper, & Johan Ramaekers》.
美籍華人，出生於臺灣，現任《廿一世紀中國詩歌》主編兼翻譯。曾獲臺灣大學外文學士，加州大學以及普渡大學雙科學碩士。曾任世界銀行交通專家，美國交通部工程師。現定居於美國西雅圖，全心投入文學。
Ms. Wang is the editor and co-translatorof bilingual poetry journal 21st Century Chinese Poetry. Born in Taiwan, Meifu Wang earned her BA inforeign languages and world literature from National Taiwan University. Her poetry has appeared in Chinese and American literary journals. Ms. Wang also earned Master's degrees in natural sciences, and worked in these fields in Washington D.C and overseas. Meifu received a 2013 Henry Luce Foundation Fellowship for Chinese poetry translationfor a residency at Vermont Studio Center. In 2016, she also accepted the appointment by Ningxia Province Poetry Society as its contracted literary translator. She lives in Seattle, USA.

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Peter Micicis a musician, polyglot, historian, writer, poet, and tea aficionado. Peter is a graduate from Monash University, Melbourne (B.A: Linguistics, Chinese; M.A: Music; PhD: Modern Chinese Music History).
美國華盛頓市人，曾任報社編輯，潛水艇水手，美國政府行政主管。對中國文字和詩歌有濃厚興趣。他的著作包括四本個人詩集。
MichaelSoper was born 1946 in Washington DC. He was the last hot-metal apprenticetypesetter in that city, and was intrigued by the challenges of word processingfor Chinese character fonts. When the Washington Star newspaper ceasedpublication in early August 1981, he returned to college and did a major inbusiness with a minor in computers. Michael went on to work for the USgovernment as a printer, publications system manager, editor, and contractingspecialist. He has been translating Chinese poetry for almost twenty years. Michael has authored eleven books, most of whichare poetry.

Bornin Tongeren, Belgium, Johan Ramaekers is a lyricist, polyglot, and poet. Hestudied German philology at Ghent University (1986-1990) where he also majoredin Dutch and English and co-founded a literary magazine called Parlando Furiosowhich literally means "Speaking Furiously." Johan is also aregistered psychiatric nurse specializing in gerontology and dementia. He livesin Ghent, a city in the Flemish region of Belgium.
