第一段裡，作者把黑暗當作老友來傾吐心事，可見他一向孤獨，在黑暗中獨語或沉思已然成為了一種習慣。而這次他要向老友說的是一個在腦中揮之不去的vision。vision,我們在這裡將其翻譯成『幻影/幻象』，在這個幻影裡，萬籟無聲。

第一段提到了一種vision。到底是何種幻影呢？第二段裡將這個幻影實物化了：孤寂冷溼的夜，鵝卵石鋪就的街，寂寥刺眼的燈光，因為燈光的出現，寂靜的一切似乎被打擾了。

第三段，在燈光下，一切突然分明可見。naked light指的是沒有燈罩的燈所發出來的光。燈光下，人頭攢動，但是人與人之間卻沒有真正的交流和傾聽。有人寫歌但是卻沒有人能與之產生共鳴(share)。這一切的一切沒有人敢去打破。

第四段中能看出作者的心急如焚。他告誡人們說，寂靜/冷漠會像癌症一樣蔓延和惡化。他希望大家能聽聽他的話，這樣也許能夠拉他們一把。但是他的話像無聲的雨滴落在沉默的井底，激不起一絲漣漪。
