Position Description:

HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the laboratory of Dr. Lawrence Latour, in the Acute Cerebrovascular Diagnostics Unit of the National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD, in collaboration with the Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM), to study the relationship between acute neuroimaging findings after traumatic brain injury (TBI) and clinical outcomes. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CNRM.

This project involves techniques including neuroimaging, data analysis, and bioinformatics to analyze clinical research data from the Traumatic Head Injury Neuroimaging Classification (THINC) project. Preference will be given to applicants (M.D. and/or Ph.D.) with experience in neuroimaging or neuroscience, conduct and analysis of clinical research data, and an interest in traumatic brain injury research.

Office and laboratory environment; may involve working with biohazardous materials; may require working evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities: 

Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development;

Obtains and maintains required training for investigators involved in clinical research protocols;

Performs specialized research utilizing experimental neuroimaging protocols;

Understands good clinical practice and maintains data integrity. Keeps detailed records of experiments. Performs data validation checks and data analysis;

Prepares data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals;

Assists with training research staff as needed;

Maintains cleanliness of office and laboratory areas;

Performs other duties as assigned;

May provide guidance to laboratory staff.

Qualifications:  

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data;

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  MD and/or PhD in a related scientific discipline;

Minimum Experience:  0 - 2 years of relevant experience;

Physical Capabilities:  Long periods of standing and sitting; intricate work with hands; carrying of light and moderately heavy laboratory equipment.
