月牙泉風景名勝區，位於敦煌市城南5公裡。古往今來以「山泉共處，沙水共生」的奇妙景觀著稱於世，被譽為「塞外風光之一絕」，1994年被定為國家重點風景名勝區。月牙形的清泉，泉水碧綠，如翡翠般鑲嵌在金子似的沙丘上。泉邊蘆葦茂密，微風起伏，碧波蕩漾，水映沙山，蔚為奇觀。鳴沙山、月牙泉與莫高窟藝術景觀融為一體，是敦煌城南一脈相連的「二絕」，成為中國乃至世界人民嚮往的旅遊勝地。
Crescent Spring Scenic Spot is located in 5 kilometers away from south of Dunhuang City. From ancient to modern times, it has long been famed for its wonderful landscapes of "coexisting mountains and spring, symbiotic sand and water" in the world, known as "the first wonder of the sceneries beyond the Great Wall", just because of this, it was designated as a national key scenic spot in 1994. The crescent-shaped green spring, as an emerald, is inlaid in a golden sand dune; while by the spring, surrounded with dense reeds, when the breeze comes, the green waves would ripple gently and the sand hills are shined in water. It is simply a luxuriant and wonderful spectacle. Such a perfect integration of Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring as well as the Mogao Grottoes Art Landscapes is the intricately linked "Second Wonder" of Southern Dunhuang, which has become a tourist attraction for the people at both home and abroad.
