CMA upgraded to level two emergency response to typhoon Meranti

At 6:00 p.m., CMA upgraded the emergency response from level three to two to super typhoon Meranti. It is required that all relevant meteorological sectors attached to CMA enter the emergency position and put corresponding meteorological services in place. The potential affected areas, such as Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Anhui and Jiangsu are expected to sustain or adjust the emergency state according to local realities.

The National Meteorological Center issued red warning of typhoon at 6:00 a.m. on September 14. At 5:00 a.m. today, the super typhoon Meranti, this year's 14th typhoon located over south sea areas of Taiwan which about 510 kilometers away southeastern Zhangpu County, Fujian Province. It will move towards northwest at the speed of 20 kilometers per hour then make a landfall along Jinjiang of Fujian and Huilai of Guangdong on the early morning of September 15. After landing, Meranti will move towards north by west and reduced into the tropical depression in Jiangxi on the morning of September 16.

From September 14 to 15, there will be scale 7-10 gale or 11-12 gust in northeastern South China Sea, Bashi Channel, eastern sea areas of Taiwan, Taiwan Strait, coast of Taiwan, Fujian, southern Zhejiang and western and southern East China Sea.

Meanwhile, the heavy rain or rainstorm will hit southern Jiangsu, eastern and southern Zhejiang, eastern and central-southern Fujian, eastern Guangdong, Taiwan and central-southern Sichuan Basin. Some parts of northeastern and southeastern Fujian, eastern Guangdong and central-southern Taiwan will see extreme rainstorm. (Sep.14)
