Super Typhoon Nepartak gets close to Fujian and Zhejiang coast

The National Meteorological Center continued to issue orange warning of typhoon at 6:00 a.m. on July 7.

 

At 5:00 a.m. this morning, Nepartak, this year's first typhoon, centered northwest Pacific Ocean about 470 km away from southeastern Hualian County, Taiwan Province (21.1N, 125.0E). The maximum sustained wind near the typhoon center is expected to strike scale 17 (60m/s).

 

It is forecasted to move to the northwest at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour with a relatively stable force and gradually get close to east coast of Taiwan Province. It is expected to make landfall on coastal Hualian County and Taidong County on the morning of July 8 (52~60 m/s, scale 16~17, super typhoon level). After that Nepartak will get through Taiwan Strait and move close to Fujian coast with a shrinking force. On the morning of July 9, it is predicted to make landfall on Fujian coast (33~42 m/s, scale 12~14, typhoon level to super typhoon level).

 

 

Gale forecast: From 7 to 8 July, eastern coast of Taiwan and northeastern Bashi Channel will be hit by scale 9~12 gale. The sea areas on the way of typhoon center are expected to be hit by scale 13~17 gale. Taiwan Strait will be exposed to scale 7~9 gale or even scale10~11 gale. Furthermore, southern East China Sea, Fujian coast, and Taiwan coast will embrace scale 7~8 gale and scale 9 gust.

 

 

Precipitation forecast: From 7 to 8 July, most of Taiwan are exposed to heavy rain or rainstorm. Portions of eastern Taiwan will see heavy rainstorm, and central and eastern Taiwan will see extraordinary rainstorm. The maximum precipitation can strike 400 mm. (July 7)
