The National Meteorological Center continued to issue orange warning of typhoon at 6:00 a.m. on July 8.
At 5:50 a.m. this morning, Super Typhoon Nepartak, this year's first typhoon, made landfall on Taimali Village of Taidong County, Taiwan Province. The maximum sustained wind near the typhoon center struck scale 17 (55m/s). At 6:00, it centered Taidong County (22.5N, 120.9E), and the maximum wind near the center hit scale 16 (55m/s).
It is forecasted to move to the further northwest at a speed of 15~20 kilometers per hour with a shrinking force and gradually slip into Taiwan Strait. On the morning of July 9, it is predicted to make landfall on Fujian coast ranging from Longhai to Lianjiang (33~40 m/s, scale 12~13, typhoon level). After that Nepartak will pass through Fujian and move to the northern or northeastern parts with a dwindling strength.
Gale forecast: From 8 to 9 July, east coast of Taiwan, Taiwan Strait, Bashi Channel, Fujian coast, and Taiwan coast will be hit by scale 9~12 gale. The sea or land areas on the way of typhoon center are expected to be hammered by scale 13~14 gale or even scale 15~17 gale. Furthermore, most of East China Sea and Zhejiang coast will embrace scale 7~8 gale and scale 9~10 gust.
Precipitation forecast: From 8 to 9 July, Taiwan, most of Fujian, and eastern Zhejiang are exposed to heavy rain or rainstorm. Furthermore, portions of east coast of Fujian and Taiwan will see heavy rainstorm or even extraordinary rainstorm (250~400 mm). The hourly rainfall at its full force in southern Taiwan is expected to reach 80~100 mm. (July 8)
