Still reeling from the devastation wrought by Typhoon Hato -- which claimed 17 lives -- southern China now has to brace itself for yet another storm system: Typhoon Pakhar.
According to the Hong Kong observatory, a tropical depression will be taking shape east of the Philippines, where it will morph into a full-on typhoon by Friday. It will reportedly make landfall on Sunday, whereupon it will be upgraded to 'severe tropical storm' status.
Pakhar is forecast to follow roughly the same trajectory as Hato, and cut a swath through Macau, Hong Kong, Zhuhai and other parts of Guangdong. Fortunately, this sequel is predicted to be less ferocious.
Still, it could prove a major blow to the region, which is still licking their wounds after Hato pounded the region, knocking out power across Macau, prompting HK to cancel hundreds of flights and forcing almost 30,000 to evacuate their homes in Southern China.
