'民'當選2020年度國內字
The Chinese character min, meaning "people", was chosen as the nation's most popular buzzword this year, while the hottest phrase related to domestic issues is "poverty alleviation". They are among a list of popular words and phrases collected during an annual assessment that sifts through characters used by Chinese-language media. Organizers included the National Language Resources Monitoring and Research Center, and the Commercial Press publishing house.
國家語言資源監測與研究中心、商務印書館等主辦的"漢語盤點2020"揭曉儀式近日舉行。
"民"當選2020年度國內字，"脫貧攻堅"當選2020年度國內詞。
It is the 15th time the lists have been published.
"漢語盤點"活動至今已舉辦十五年。
"People" made the list because people's interests have always been the top priority of the Communist Party of China and the government - and this has been brought home since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers said. The entire country was mobilized to assist Wuhan and Central China’s Hubei province in the fight against the pandemic to save people's lives. After the virus was contained, work and production resumed in an orderly way to ensure people's livelihoods, they said.
主辦方對"民"的解讀是：新冠疫情襲來，黨和政府以人民利益為重，全中國馳援武漢，力保生命安全；有序復工復產，穩住民生民心。
The Chinese word "yi", meaning "pandemic", was chosen as the hottest word related to international topics in 2020, and the hottest phrase related to international topics in 2020 was "the COVID-19 pandemic".
"疫"當選2020年度國際字, "新冠疫情"當選2020年度國際詞。

China's new medium-lift carrier rocket Long March-8 made its maiden flight on Tuesday, sending five satellites into planned orbit, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA). The rocket blasted off from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site on the coast of southern China's island province of Hainan at 12:37 pm.
國家航天局消息，12月22日12時37分，我國的新型中型運載火箭長徵八號首次飛行試驗在海南文昌航天發射場順利實施，以"一箭五星"的方式成功將5顆衛星送入預定軌道。
The Long March-8 rocket has a total length of 50.3 meters, with a takeoff mass of 356 ton. It can carry a payload of at least 4.5 ton to a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 700 km.
長徵八號運載火箭全長約50.3米，起飛質量約356噸，700公裡太陽同步軌道運載能力不小於4.5噸。
The rocket fills the gap in China's launch capability to the sun-synchronous orbit from 3 ton to 4.5 ton, and is of great significance for accelerating the upgrading of launch vehicles, according to the CNSA.
國家航天局表示，長徵八號填補了我國太陽同步軌道3噸至4.5噸運載能力空白，對加速推進運載火箭升級換代具有重要意義。

New-type Fuxing bullet trains with a speed of 250 km per hour will soon be put into use on several railway lines, according to the China State Railway Group. The CR300 bullet train, a new addition to the Fuxing bullet train family that now covers the speed range from 160 km to 350 km, will be put into service on the railways linking Hangzhou and Shenzhen, Lianyungang and Zhenjiang, Guiyang and Guangzhou, among others.
中國國家鐵路集團有限公司近日表示，時速250公裡的CR300型復興號動車組很快將投入使用，即將在杭深、連鎮、貴廣等多條高鐵線路開通運營。至此，我國時速160公裡至350公裡復興號系列動車組全部投用。
This marks an important step in China's railway development, and shows that China will continue to lead the world in high-speed rail technology, according to the company.
國鐵集團稱，這是我國鐵路發展史上的重要一步，展現出中國高鐵技術持續領跑世界。
So far, Fuxing bullet trains have operated 836 million km safely, transporting a total of 827 million passengers. It is expected that Fuxing bullet trains will be used in all provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland next year, the company said.
目前復興號動車組已累計安全運行8.36億公裡，運送旅客8.27億人次，2021年復興號將覆蓋中國大陸所有省份。

多部門合力破託育難題
China has over 47 million children under the age of three and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) will seek improved childcare service in the next five years, NDRC official Ou Xiaoli said Sunday. Raising children brings families under financial strain and affects parents' career, which has been a focus of society, Ou Xiaoli said at a forum organized by the China Family Planning Association.
國家發改委官員歐曉理12月20日在中國計劃生育協會主辦的一個論壇上表示，我國3歲以下嬰幼兒人數超過4700萬，生養孩子給家庭帶來的高經濟成本以及對父母職業發展的影響已成為社會關注的熱點問題。未來五年，國家發改委將推動嬰幼兒照護服務發展。
To address the problem, the National Health Commission (NHC) is working with other departments to improve policies, regulations, standards and supply childcare services, said Yu Xuejun, deputy head of the NHC.
國家衛生健康委副主任於學軍致辭表示，為解決這個問題，國家衛健委協調各方，推進嬰幼兒照護服務的政策法規、標準規範、服務供給體系建設。
Yu also pledged strengthened policy support to make childcare services more universally available to society.
於學軍表示，下一步將強化政策支持，拓寬普惠託育供給。
